On Friday, April 1, locations worldwide will be celebrating an intersection of the literary and culinary worlds with the International Edible Book Festival. Here in Buffalo, the Western New York Book Arts Center will be hosting their third annual Edible Book event from 5 to 8 p.m.
Book, art and food lovers are invited to submit their edible books or simply join the rest of the crowd in viewing (and later eating) the different submissions on exhibit. There will be three categories for submissions: Professional, amateur and junior (under age 16).
Prizes awarded will include best book, most creative, and best tasting. The judges' panel will include Andrew Galarneau of the Buffalo News, Lisa Tucker of Edible Buffalo, Joyce Kryszak of WBFO, and Mike Christiano, chef at The Left Bank Restaurant. The judging will take place between 6 and 7 p.m. Once the winners are announced and prizes are awarded, everyone is welcome to join in the fun of eating these works of food art. There will also be a cash bar at the event and Lloyd Taco Truck will be on the scene between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. providing hot tacos and burritos.
Admission to the event will be $5 for WNY Book Arts Center members and children. Tickets for the general public will be $10. Anyone who enters their edible book creation into the contest will be given two tickets for admission. All of the proceeds from this event will go toward the organization's programming.
All entries must be registered by March 29 at 12 p.m. The competition will be limited to the first 40 entries. To enter your edible book into the contest, register here. Entry fees are set at $5 per submission.
All of the edible books entered in the competition must be at the WNY Book Arts Center, located at 468 Washington Street, between 2 and 4 p.m. on the day of the event. For more information, visit the WNY Book Arts Center website.
