Rick Martin Dies: French Connection Loses a Link
Rick Martin, one third of the Sabres famed French Connection, died earlier today as a result of a heart attack.  According to the News report, Martin had a heart attack while driving in Clarence. He was 59.

The French Connection was just reunited for the first game of the Terry Pegula era and received a standing ovation. The event was extra special as it represented the Sabres welcoming Rene Robert back to the organization after a falling out with the previous ownership group.

It's a sad day for Sabres fans everywhere.

Update: The Sabres have released a statement on the sad news. . .

The Buffalo Sabres are saddened to announce the passing of Buffalo Sabres Hall of Famer and member of the famed French Connection, Rick Martin. Rick was not only one of the greatest players in franchise history, he was a great friend to the Sabres organization and the entire community. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Sabres organization go out to his wife Mikey and their two sons, Corey and Josh.
