Buffalo Inspired Movie Posters by Michael Harmon

Buffalo Inspired Movie Posters by Michael Harmon
While eating lunch at Fiddleheads the other day, I noticed a series of prints on the wall that I found to be slightly odd (in a good way), professionally done, and like nothing I had ever seen before. I learned that the artist/graphic designer was Michael T. Harmon, a student in his last semester at Buffalo State College. Being a film buff, I was fascinated by the style of the works, and found myself imagining what each of the story lines would be if such movies were to be released.

I was so captivated by Electro that I was tempted to reach out to local script writer Jeff Wilber who I felt would be the perfect person to take the concept from artwork to the big screen. Escape from the Hotel Lenox was another fun-filled daydream that I could not get out of my head... Jeff? A little help with the half baked plot that came to me as I sat eating my pizzette?

I reached out to Michael to learn more about the works and he relayed that he had just finished showing them at an exhibit at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum. Unfortunately that exhibit has passed, but Michael expressed an interest in the works being featured on BRO along with his artist's statement that follows:

Yes sir, it is typical of the blame the suburbs for what is wrong with Buffalo attitude.

These would look great on the walls of the airport terminal. Subtle advertising of must see places(except the Amherst one

At this point (Michael being an artist and all) he has no online shop. He is listening though... Michael, are you aware of sites like Etsy and Cafe Press?

Great work. Love the Love Canal one, and the one with The Campanile in it (one of my favorite buildings in the city)

Thanks for all your praises everyone! I hope you enjoyed my take on these structures as much as I enjoyed growing up in their shadows. The german poster art of the 1920's and the Rural Electrification Administration advertising campaign in the early 1900's really inspired me to delve into the realm of vector art. The way the Beggarstaff Brothers and other artists of the time rationalized using flat planes of color really intrigued me. I being a a huge advocate for the beauty of our city drew me to create these posters. The buildings were not my first attempt at vector art, I have constructed compositions of friends, family and places ever since I began this in 2007.

Thanks again all!

You should print some of them up. There are at least 5 or so that I'd buy and hang around the house.
