Video Projection Forges Ahead... in Portugal

Video Projection Forges Ahead... in Portugal
With all of the talk about projections on the grain elevators, every once in a while it's good to showcase some of the other video projection projects that are groundbreaking in every manner possible. A BRO reader sent this video, just moments go, of a building in Portugal that pretty much breaks the projection mold. The show is creative, complex, and altogether breathtaking. There's not much more to say than, "Sit back and take a gander at a video that changes the entire large scale projection ball game."

When you look at how complicated this technology has become, of course you want to keep up with the Joneses... unless the Joneses have already blown everything you ever thought that you knew out of the water. Then there are times that you know that you'll never be able to pull off a stunt like this... oh well... there are plenty of video-starved people out there who would appreciate an attempt no matter how big or small.

This one is from New Years in Prague. Apparently these types of projections are all the rage overseas!

Wow, that was awesome. I hope whoever does this project thinks about the Statler Tower, I think it would be awesome with a 3d type display.

Grain Mills would be a great start, personally I wouldn't mind if they diverted the Fireworks budget for the waterfront to this.

You don't have to go all the way to Portugal, just check out Ottawa's Parliament Hill show, basically the same thing.

Yea I seen this before and thought about incorporating it with the grain elevator. There's a cool one I saw done with a mix between Iron Man and AC/DC.

Does anyone know how much this actually costs?

If buffalo could get this, I bet there could be major sponsorship money involved considering the location of the grain elevator in canalside. Also, it would bring out the local art community at a professional and collegiate level.

Be sure to check that link it has some amazing ones.

FTL - "Check out the projection realized by The Electric Canvas on the Sydney Opera House in May and June of this year. This building projection’s claim to fame is the 21 days of non-repeating artwork alongside a fantastic festival." http://www.theelectriccanvas.com.au/

That four million sounds like a lot, but it can't be half that cost if it were done in Buffalo. The grain elevators in the video are much longer than ours. I would think the majority of the costs would come from buying the projectors and the man hours designing. Since it's a smaller space, it would have to cost less on both of those factors. I'm of course just guessing on this... Sooo two million haha.

I can just imagine the grain elevator silos spinning, peeling, blasting off, and crumbling.

If the grain silo just west of the Skyway/end of Main St. was stabilized and developed, this is the spot to do the first projection. That same silo with a bridge through it, a restaurant on top of it, and 3D IMAX in it would be awesome.

BTW, the ECHDC contracted for outer harbor bridge final river crossing studies back in late 2010. When will those results go public?

Don't worry it'll happen sooner or later.

Philadelphia's newest and tallest tower, Comcast Center, has a 25' x 83' 2000 sq. foot LED video system in their lobby that's become quite a tourist attraction throughout the day. So much so that the city has added the attration to their tourism website. There are special holiday shows too. Niles Creative Group has been mentioned as the designer/installer.
