Paula Deen Live! Comes To Buffalo

Paula Deen Live! Comes To Buffalo
Georgia's Queen of Southern cuisine will soon be heading for the Queen City to host her new touring production, "Paula Deen Live!"

The show will feature best-selling author, restaurateur and Food Network star Paula Deen, along with her husband, Michael Groover.  Deen will not only be cooking up some of her famous cuisine, but she'll also be sharing behind-the-scenes stories from her time spent on her cooking show.  The show promises to be entertaining and full of surprises.

"Generally speaking my shows are all improvised," said Deen. "My experience has been that it's best to feed off the audience's energy. Some of the most hilarious things happen when you don't plan them. I've had my britches fall off once and another time I was hit in the head with a ham. We don't rehearse this stuff, it just happens!"

Deen's life in the world of cooking began in her grandmother's kitchen in Albany, Georgia.  Working for hours alongside her grandmother, she learned her recipes backwards and front.  When Deen's life took a tragic turn early on with the loss of her parents, an unhappy marriage, and the onset of a debilitating illness, it was her grandmother's recipes that she turned to.  Little did she know that she would find her dream within them.  She and her sons moved to Savannah where she opened up a restaurant and soon thereafter, published her first cookbook and eventually made her way to the Food Network.  There she became an Emmy Award winning host and spread her fun-loving personality to audiences everywhere.

Deen's inviting and humorous personality that audiences have witnessed over and over on the Food Network is what makes her live show so engaging.  She not only cooks, but she shares jokes and advice with her audiences in hopes of creating an intimate and fun experience for them.

"Once I walk on stage, there's no telling what will happen," said Deen. "I always start with good intentions in the kitchen but by evening's end I'm so involved with the audience and crying with laughter."

"When I'm onstage I have one mission: to have fun," Deen added. "I want everyone in that audience to leave their worries back home and have a good time."

The show will take place at Shea's Performing Arts Center on April 20 at 7 p.m.  Tickets will be available starting this Friday, February 11.  Tickets for reserved seating are priced at $44.75 and can be obtained at the Shea's Box Office, participating ticketmaster outlets, including Macy's stores, www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone at 800-745-3000.

Shea's Performing Arts Center is located at 650 Main Street.  The box office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  For more information, visit the Shea's website.

I feel bad that I am such a cynic but the women annoys the crap out of me. There is something phony about her. Her food is not interesting and her personality is designed for TV... not as bad as Sandra Lee but close.

Love her cooking - most of the time - but it's way too "rich" for me.

Since TV is mostly crap and getting worse, the food channel is one of the few I watch fairly regularly.

Over 100 channels and nothing good to watch...!!!

It seems a little odd that someone from a place that considers waffle house to be fine dining, and mac-n-cheese to be an art form would dare to think she can teach Buffalonians about cooking...

Just look at the picture... pancakes... seriously, what fool doesn't already know that when you run out of Bisquick, just just add a little baking power to your flour and make your own?

I'm not even going to mention the deep frier in the photo. Or the whole Smithfield controversy. Maybe while she's here, somebody will volunteer to take her to the Broadway Market and show her how it's really done!

Lol...coming from someone who lives in a city where Beef on Weck, Wings and pizza is fine dining, all washed down with a $1.00 Labatts. And what could you possibly show her at the Broadway Market? A 3/4 empty building with a few sad sack venders displaying Italian Sausage links and Potato Perogies...also to be considered fine dining in the fair city of Buffalo.

Hmm guess you have never been to a "Fish Fry"...beer batter is far from 4 stars.

Is that your impression of Savannah? Dude, the thruway rest stops are a good 15 min drive from the city. Guess you didn't venture far enough in. Sad because it's one of the greatest cities in America.

Ah Paula Deen...nothing like cooking everything with four sticks of butter and then dropping it into a deep fryer. Honestly, who has a deep fryer, let alone two in their kitchen?

Score: 2 ( 2 votes ) Vote up Vote down Report this comment

Al I have in my kitchen is 4 deep fryers, and a Showtime Rotisserie Oven. Thats a standard kitchen set up as far as i'm concerned, right?

Can't beleive I'm replying to a lame Paula Dean article. Two things, how much butter do you think Hutch's puts in their mashed taters and it is possible to deep fry at home without a deep fryer. I deep fry twinkies everyday.

How do you deep fry your twinkies?

It was a joke, but there is a restaurant in NYC that deep fries everything, including twinkies. They batter them, then deep fry.

Woahh, what with all the haters?? Most of you are talking like the food in Buffalo is the second coming of Christ. This is Buffalo, not Paris or even NYC. I've been to Hutch's, Chop House, etc., most of Buffalo's fine dining scene, it's good but it's not the end all and be all. Stop pretending we're something we're not. BTW, the Broadway Market is fairly pathetic, I'd be embarrassed to take Paula Deen there, except at Easter!

Are you people for real, Buffalo is actually getting another chance to be spotlighted on National Television, and you self loathing Buffaloians have nothing better to do than complain. These comments reflect so much about this city and so much of what is wrong with this city. As for all of who are complaining about what she cooks, when Chivattas Chicken BBQ is gourmet for most of you, or a night out for dinner is at the Hamlin House for a Ritz Cracker Fish Fry. Good grief

well, sort of. More like "Buffalo" is paying her to come, and then charging $45 to watch her die. Which appeals to me, but it's not like she's doing it for the community.
She's no Dale Earnhardt.

@Transplant that left and Onestarmartin--I think I love you both! I wish there were more commenters like you who do not right way poo-poo everything that is commercial, national chain or mainstream.

Most of these BRO commenters are annoying Debbie Downers who do nothing to build the city or it's image up. And yet I can't help reading them. I guess I am the crazy one.

Ah, I miss the fawning over the preppie "everyman" Anthony Bourdain. His boarding school Vasser background is much more Buffalo.

I'm fine with the butter. If you only knew how much is used in an average restaurant prepared meal you would be astonished. It's the flakes of her Mary Kay cosmetics falling into my food that prevents me from being a fan.

What the... hahaha. The comments are so polarized and outrageous, something I wouldn't think a Paula Deen article would bring out in people.

Someone says something ridiculous about the south/southern cooking. Then someone who moved away from Buffalo years ago to the south who still checks the site, for reasons that are beyond me, backlashes and it snowballs from there. Really guys?

How about this, if you like her and her show go check her out. If you don't like her and her show then don't. I think she's fun and think its great she's coming here.

It's the old rule - in mixed company, never discuss politics, religion or Paula Deen.

So...expats are not expected to have an interest in what is happening in the cities of their origin? We will have to let Catie Wolfgang form Phillies Mayors office and Steel to name a few not to bother with this site.

I used to think Paula was putting on an act. I didn't think that she (or anyone these days) could possibly have such a thick southern accent. I figured it was just her trying to be distinct.
Then I went to Savannah for an interview (nice city by the way). I went to Piggly Wiggly just to see what it was like. There were a bunch of locals shopping there who made Paula sound like she was from Brooklyn. I've gone easier on her since then.

This is out of left field, about six years ago from Boston to Charlotte I sat behind Paula Deen. And, was absolutely enchanted by her. She is exactly what you see on TV. Reading this made me think of how nice she was.

Wow.. what's with all the haters??? If you don't like her, don't go.

She cooks southern comfort food, not fine dining gourmet. I'm sure the wings, pizza and beer is way above southern comfort foods.

I dare you to say what you do to her face. Do you speak like this with all your colleagues face to face?
