Niagara Seafood introduces take-out dishes

Niagara Seafood introduces take-out dishes
I was a fan of Niagara Seafood when the market first came onto the scene. Having a fresh seafood purveyor on the West Side is convenient... and now seafood lovers can stop in to pick up prepared meals to take home, or sit down in the market-style cafe seating area. When I first learned that the business was going to be offering lunch and dinner, I was hoping that the menu would consist of more than the standard fish fry (always the easy way out). I was happy to discover that the take-out selections were rather diverse, featuring bowls of seafood noodle soup, Vietnamese sandwiches and water fern cake. At the same time Niagara Seafood also cooks up six varieties of fish fries, including pollock, ocean perch, cod loin and basa.

Although I knew that I was taking a chance, I opted to try the seafood noodle soup, hoping that it was not going to be too over the top - you never know coming from a Vietnamese seafood market. The choice turned out to be truly exceptional.  I went with the regular size over the large, a good choice considering the regular size was very filling. The thick rice noodles added a soothing component to the dish, while the seafood was mild and plentiful - there was even a boiled quail egg at the bottom of the bowl. The soup was served steaming hot, not spicy. The table setting was filled with a variety of spices to adjust flavors to my liking, while sprouts, peppers, etc. accompanied the meal. I can't say enough about how delicious and fulfilling the seafood soup is at Niagara Seafood - so good in fact that we're getting ready to head back over there in a few minutes.

Other dishes include spicy beef noodle soup, house special fried rice, grilled pork with vermicelli, porridge soup, spring and egg rolls, clear shrimp and pork dumplings, and fish sauce chicken served with rice.

I don't know who prepared your bowl, but mine was so disappointing they lost me as a customer before I even got started. For almost $9.00 I expected to get what they showed me in a picture the first time I ate there (had the regular beef pho which was delicious, btw). What I did get for $9.00 was a bowl of noodles with meh soup and pieces of fake crab meat (surimi), a few small tasteless dried shrimp, one quail egg, and ONE (yes count'em... ONE) decent sized fresh shrimp hidden at the bottom. Unfortunately I was so hungry at the time I just ate while being teased with the freezers full of seafood in front of me - and then left. I was so pissed I didn't say a word but now I wish I did.

For a promising new seafood specialty market/restaurant, this was substandard. They won't see me back there.

I agreed with queenseyes. Their seafood noodle soup is my favorite. I love the type of noodle they use in the soup which I was told is tapioca noodle. I never had this kind of noodle soup before but I like.
