Music is Art (MiA) will be hosting the 2011 High School Battle of the Bands contest, giving local students a chance to show their musical talent.
All bands have from now until February 11th, 2011 to submit one song by CD or link on MySpace or Youtube to Music is Art.
Music is Art will select six finalists to compete live in the spring on a date yet to be determined. The winner will earn a spot on the main stage at the annual Music is Art Festival on September 10th, 2011 on the grounds of Albright Knox. They will also receive recording time at the GCR Audio, a digital release in the Good Charamel Records' webstore, and a professional photo shoot from concert photographer Bob Mussell.
An MiA committee will also select one band as the winner of the Big Easy in Buffalo Mardi Gras Jam. The winner of that contest will have the opportunity to work with one of the New Orleans bands that will be in town as a part of the 4th annual Mardi Gras Jam on March 4th, 2011. They will be able to perform on stage that evening for 20 minutes as an opening act. The winning band will also appear at the Music is Art Festival in September with a side stage spot.
Music is Art believes that while some schools have a classical or jazz bands, other types of music should have a chance to be heard by friends, family and the community.
All styles and genres of music will be welcome into the contest. The only rules is that the band must have 10 members or less, be sponsored by a teacher, and 75% of them must be enrolled at the school their representing.
