Holy Frack: Sabres Sale To Pegula is Official

Holy Frack: Sabres Sale To Pegula is Official
At long last, Tom Golisano has signed an agreement to sell the Buffalo Sabres to Terry Pegula.  Official word from the Sabres to media sources:

"The Buffalo Sabres today announced that Tom Golisano has reached an agreement to sell the Buffalo Sabres and its related companies to Terry Pegula. The agreement, completed at 1p.m. today is subject to certain closing conditions including review and approval by the National Hockey League. It is expected the NHL process will take several weeks to complete."

There will be a press conference at HSBC Arena on Thursday at noon with Golisano and Larry Quinn, but, interestingly, Terry Pegula will not be attending.

And now on to the debate as to what Pegula should do with Darcy Regier and Lindy Ruff.

Lindy and Darce have been good soldeirs I would miss them so he should keep them. Ill miss Goli though, he saved the Sabres. I would keep the whole team intac love those guys and they work their butts off every single night, you guys have no idea how hard they work, but the only non touchable players would be Millsy of course, Goose, and maybe Pommer. Id love to have Soupy back even though hes getting old, met him at Buckin Buffalo one night and he let me buy him a beer A-1 guy.

He should keep them? Have you watched the Sabres this year? Pominville is an overpayed wimp with an inaccurate shot. Campbell is even more overpaid. And how is Gaustad untouchable? Those whopping 5 goals got you impressed? You can buy me a beer if you want. Does that make me an A-1 guy?

Oh, Jimmy. Yet again putting on a display of brainlessness. As I said in the post about the Seneca planner, you rarely make any sense or show any reasonable knowledge. You'd probably also hang onto stock if the company went bankrupt. Hard work doesn't make up for lack of talent or chemistry.

As for the sale: Hallelujiah!

Unlike brainlessthedaigo, I want a major overhaul and want to see a group of players we can actually fall in love with like '98.

To be fair, company stock can be worth more after bankruptcy than before bankruptcy.

Jimmy I have suspicion that all your comments on this site are sarcastic and an attempt to lampoon many of the frequent posters on here. You are pretty funny actually. If you are being serious, you need help.

Really? You chose goose and pommer? Those would be one of the first on my $h!t list. Clean house!

What's official is that Golisano has agreed to sell the Sabres. He has not yet sold them. He is still the owner and will continue to be the owner until all conditions to the sale are satisfied or waived and the sale closes.

This is comparable to the sale of a house when the buyer and seller both sign the purchase contract obligating the buyer to buy and the seller to sell the house subject to any conditions to closing (like buyer obtaining a bank loan). The buyer and seller then close the sale in the future (60 days) at which time the buyer pays the seller and takes title to (owns) the house in return.

Bet any money that they get into the 8 spot with all those "terrible" players and make a run, might not get Lord Stanleys cup but they just might do that anything is possible if the playoffs. AND its not always about how many goals a guy has its what they bring and a guy like Goose is feared around the league. So haters shut up.

Score: 1 ( 5 votes ) Vote up Vote down Report this comment

That's exactly the point - they're mediocre at best. Fighting for the 8th spot with the far flung hope of playoff possibility is exactly the issue we have with them.

You can keep your weak team, but for me I hope this guy cleans house (including the so un-clutch, can't keep a shutout or win us a playoff or Olympic game thatmatters, Ryan Miller. Why you all drool over him is beyond me, but I digress)

Detroit has challenged for 20 years, there's absolutely no reason why we can't as well If we only had the right people in charge.

Jimmy, come on! You just keep outdoing yourself. Feared?! You think Gaustad is feared in the NHL? Maybe respected, but come on, let's not go crazy throwing anything that pops into our head out there. You need to stop and think, then decide not to write anything.

As for Miller, James, he is worth what he's making and is hardly the/ a problem for this team. Getting a solid backup would boost his worth.

And speaking of Detroit, their scouting department is colossal for why they're successful. I have absolutely no doubt Pegula will restore what Golisano slashed, and he'll probably add more, to the scouting department.

Quinn leaving the Sabres is music to my ears. Now someone tell me he is done with Canalside/ECHDC.

No, sorry if you misunderstood me. I didn't mean that Miller was our problem, but I wish people would wake up and stop saying anyone can go but him. He's very replaceable.

Oh, and how many times has he been pulled this year? Hearing that it 'wasn't his fault, just trying to wake the team up' is getting old. The defense is rough this year, he needs to step up...or did he simply ride a strong defense last year all the way to the Vezina?

This deal has been done for some time, and everything is just a formality now. What I can say without betraying much trust is that Quinn has literally already been replaced, and hopefully Darcy will not be far behind.

You should shrink the size of the picture. It is way to large for its file size.

the team is actually a mess, overpaid and under talented and unmotivated. Bye-bye to Connolly, Gaustad, Greer, Lalime, Rivet and really just about anybody else, except Miller.

I'd add Ennis, Gerbe, Myers (he'll pull out of this..right?)...McCormick would make a good fourth line player on a better team. Roy's points per game number isn't that bad, and we're stuck with Vanek's contract.

Between Portland and Cassion (sp?), Foligno...probably have half a dozen players that can play within the next two years. Get rid of anyone else. Bring in two top players for our best line, supplement with free agents...that would be a lot more fun than watching Niedermayer, Greer, Gaustad, Connolly, Pominville, Rivet, Heche, and others.

Dear Buffalo Rising,

Can we now have a sports tab?

Thanks

no one on this team is untouchable as far as a trade goes....that includes Miller. In fact I know it would have been an unpopular decision, but I thought they should have offered up Miller as trade bait last year after the olympics when his stock was through the roof....I'm sure a legit cup contender would have paid through the nose to get him....hell, Chicago is a prime example of how overrated banking all your stock in a big time goalie is ....sure their nice to have but not at the expense of the rest of the team.....they won the cup with their backup because the rest of their team was so deep and talented...the exact opposite of Buffalo

We have to be careful about over estimating the quality of our minor league players like Gerbe, Ennis, Foligno and the like. That is what got us the weak team that we have now. Remember thinking how great Pominville, Roy, Mc Aurthor, and Gaustad were. So we dump good proven veteran talent to promote these kids to the big leagues and really they were just decent role players at best.
I dissagree about Miller being trade bait, he is young and has definetley proven is durability and quality. Sign Meyers to a long term deal, let go Connolly, Gaustad, Hecht and Rivet and replace them with Men that can play hard and impose fear.

I'm pretty sure Kassian would impose fear. Especially after another offseason of lifting weights. I agree about not overestimating our players. But IMO Gerbe is the only one to worry about. I don't think he's going to end up being much of a player regardless of the little streak he's on now. Foligno will be a beast, though. The sooner he's up here, the better.

Neidermayer (however you choose to spell his name) has done little. Greer showed up in the playoff series vs. Boston last year, but has been invisible since. Connolly has been a tap dancer for way too long. Pominville can't shoot straight. Rivet can't even find the ice. Butler is infuriating.

Gaustad wins face-offs and can play with a chip on his shoulder, so I disagree that he should go. A reliable back-up to Miller - not just a great guy in the locker room - seems to be needed. I like McCormick...Kaleta needs to stay healthy..Ennis needs to learn to pass the puck, Gerbe needs to play like he has the last stretch. Where's Leopold been lately?

Meyers is definitely a keeper.

The rest need to show up and work. Very casual attitude from this team all year...they play as if they are going to win the President's Cup again, as if they were up by 10 points over Philadelphia. They need to start banging and we need some bigger dudes in front of the net (hear that, Stafford? Hecht?).

I am surprised they still have a shot at the playoffs but feel they will probably sleepwalk through the next 10 game stretch and still fail to get into playoff contention. This bunch is tough to embrace...no real leader, with the exception of Miller..who also appears to be making wedding plans rather than stopping shots.

Team needs to wake up!

Pegula can't be any more inept at running an NHL franchise than Larry Quinn. Golisano saved the team for Buffalo and as a fan I am grateful for that. Quinn did everything he could to achieve mediocrity. As a fan, I am thrilled to see him go.

Lindy's a great coach who's been supplied with sub par talent for a long time now. Regier is by far the worst GM in pro sports, who seems to get rewarded for constant mediocrity. Lindy is moving on after this season to a large market team who will pay him(he turned down an extension last summer)...most likely Toronto or NY Rangers, and he deserves it. Regier will hopefully be out of hockey. He is terrible, won't pay for talent and is along the lines of the Bill's GM's...cheap bottom fishers who know that the sheep in this town will come to the games whether the teams win or not because there's nothing else to do here. Just wait til the Bills move to their new home in LA in a $1billion stadium and are embraced by a huge market.
