Buffalo Needs A Sabres Fight Song

Buffalo Needs A Sabres Fight Song
Do the Buffalo Sabres need a fight song? There are some who feel with the changing of the guard, there should also be some lyrics for fans to chant and shout after a goal is scored. Kinda like a good European soccer match? Maybe a bit more simple? Whatever the case, there's nothing current and the old tunes are getting stale. There are those of us who still know the words to the 1975 Sabres song, 'We're gonna win that cup!' (Me and the Buffalo Sabres yeah, yeah, yeah.) There were at least three versions of that song to be produced over the years. Then there was 'Sabres fever', 'Fa-la-la-la-la-Lafontaine'... all of those songs can be listened to online. Still, no fight song...

Sabres' fan Scott Michalak is on a mission to rally other Sabres fans and the Sabres' team to come up with a fight song. He's even gone so far as to create an online petition (for you to sign) that he hopes will get the puck sliding. From Scott:

It might be of interest to you and your production that an on-line petition has just gone live, the aim of which is to urge the Sabres to create a fight song (much like the Bills have the "Shout" song). With the ownership transition, it's a very intriguing and topical story.  The link to the petition:

To:  Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres should have a fight song. Something short that plays to get everyone in the arena pumped up and that is played after every Sabres goal.

The Buffalo Bills have the Shout song and the Sabres need their own version. The fight song should be something unique to Buffalo and to the Sabres. The Dance of the Sabres is great but has no words and is more of a theme than a fight song.

It should be quick and to the point and something that people can cheer along with after having a few beers. A fine example: The audio is rough, but the guy has heart and you can feel his passion for the Sabres.

This is the sort of thing that inspires both the players and fans. In a new era of Buffalo Sabres hockey, this is something that Terry Pegula should add to help take the team to another level.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Bring back OO AHHH Sabres on the Warpath!

Having a real Anthem would be great. I'd love an Irish Drinking Song so people could chant and get involved. I admit I was jealous when the Canadian Fans came in here and were chanting and hollering etc. I'm not saying we should sing Ole Ole ole, but the vibe was awesome.

Another cliched style for post goals etc would be the Bluesy chanty thumpy style. The Blackhawks use Chelsea Dagger in this way, Black keys have become huge with this sound too.

For Gods sake don't get the Goo Goo Dolls involved.

The Sabre Dance (Plate Spinner song) just needs some words... You can't get any more unique than that tune, and anybody in the world with a modest knowledge of music is able to make the connection.

An anthem is not a fight song.

Neither is the Shout Song.

Tweak the Cee-Lo and BOOM there's your song.

I see you skatin' down the ice for the team I love
And I'm like, Puck You
I got some change in my pocket it's enough for a beer
And I'm like, Puck You and Puck them too

I hope you might take the time to read my blog. It's not only about the experience in the arena.

It also involves the experience watching the game at a restaurant, tailgating, marching towards or from the stadium, and attending away games.

This is not a protest petition - it's a collaborative effort to augment the collective experience for Sabres Nation at home and abroad.

Thanks to all for your consideration. Go Sabres!

What we really need are some smokin hot "Ice Girls". I dont want to look at some balding man in his 40s scrape the excess snow from the ice between whistles, I want to look at some platinum blonds with curves in tight spandex outfits.

Gay. Sabre Dance is fine. Are you looking for a song like the stupid song the Hawks play after wins? Nevertheless, I'll pass on supporting this idea. An actual "fight song"? How many people actually know their alma mater fight song? Unless you went to Notre Dame or U of M, probably no one.

And Ice Girls are stupid, too. Leave that for Tampa, Raleigh, and Atlanta. Go to the Canadian ballet or get a g/f (or a better looking one).

I would love if the Sabres had some sort of song representing them, ala "You'll Never Walk Alone" for the Liverpool soccer club in England. Obviously that was something that more evolved than was selected, and there is much more of a "brand" behind Liverpool than the Sabres, but some sort of song that a whole arena could sing would be great!

Hard to get all gung ho for a fight song when they're diving into the crapper.

You don't need some goofy song you need a team that's winning and is exciting to watch. Until that changes, no song is gonna make the stale environment at Sabres game any better.

I dont know about adding a new fight song when the Sabre Dance "anthem" is already pretty weak. I'd address that first.

I'm too young to know when "Sabres on the Warpath" was big but I'm fairly certain that IS the Sabres' fight song. If they utilized it more in-arena it would have the same, if not better effect that Shout! does at The Ralph.

I think every organization in America that has ever identified itself as a team has at one point had that chant associated with it. And if we're differentiating an anthem and a fight song, then this would certainly be differentiated as a chant.

I see it as something you could use at the beginning of the games to start to fire-up the crowd. It would certainly be better than "Now lets play some hockey!" Personally, I think that is lame, cheesy and dumb. If they had different groups - and I mean real groups of people, not just Timbits teams - record the chant and had the PA guy (or an in-arena host) start the chant up, it could possibly work.

As for an anthem, I see your point. If they had a song, like Chelsea Dagger or the song the Wild use, it would be really cool to use after goals. It is a matter of choosing the right song.

I think this would work great. It needs no modification for Sabres hockey, its moving poignant song & everyone knows the words:

No one would tell the Whalers, if they still existed, that Brass Bonanza needs to be replaced.

Ay-men, Lois.

Oh, How I miss my Whalers. Given away to a region that doesnt really understand, nor truly want an NHL franchise. Oh, Veterans Memorial Coliseum, you were a hockey arena. No waiters. Fancy foods. Just steep steps, hot dogs, and cold air.

Man, it reeked of old time hockey in there. The Chiefs would have been right at home.

Sigh.

Just commission The Zambonis to write a fight song. As the only all-hockey band in the world, and who have been so for 20 years, I think they can bring some solid talent to this. :)

And they hail from Whalers territory for the Hartford fans.

Listen to this chant starting at 3:50. I believe this should be the chant us sabres fans bellow out after each sabres goal. Or when the sabres are behind, if we think it will help.

You want the Sabres Fight Song to be "oh oh oh" ? That might be the worst suggestion I've ever heard since "Hey, lets divide the city in half with a freeway."
