Wisteria Charter School Initiative

Wisteria Charter School Initiative
By Allita Lee:

In an effort to tap into the community's needs and insight the Wisteria Charter School Initiative respectfully asks the public to complete surveys either online or in person.  We are "casting a wide net" to reach anyone interested in enrolling their children in a Waldorf-inspired program or assisting with the creation of this charter school.  If an individual does not have Internet access then they may fill out a survey form at the Masten Resource Center (home of the Better Schools, Better Neighborhoods Initiative).  The Masten Resource Center is located at 1423 Fillmore Avenue, Buffalo, New York 14211.

Also this week are a series of public meetings to be held citywide.  These meetings are designed to introduce the Wisteria Charter school group and to solicit the community's input as we move forward in the charter school application approval process. The casual format of the meetings should allow for plenty of Q&A following a brief presentation.  Refreshments will be served.

Waldorf Schools are interesting, Waldorf "inspired" whatever that means... not so much. Some clarification might be nice.

Interesting idea, but who's behind it? I wish there was more info on their website/blog, or at the very least, some names or groups associated with this project. Who are the founders? Who's writing the charter? Waldorf philosophy has some amazing aspects, but "academic rigor" is not a phrase one usually sees in connection to a Waldorf-philosophy program. I'd be interested to learn more, but I'd really like to see some names along with this. Does anybody have more info?

Finally- the Southtowns won't be the only ones with a Waldorf school!

Spoke too soon, I didn't know The Rose Gardenhttp://www.therosegarden.us/ was Waldorf. I don't think this style of education is for every child, but it's a great option to have!

It should be duly noted that neither is a Waldorf School, they are "Waldorf inspired". It will be interesting to see how funding affects the school's ability to embrace the Waldorf philosophy. I would assume any financial support is based mostly on rigorous testing and adherence to guidelines that would really hamper the school's ability to have any reflection of a Waldorf School.
