Homeland Security Leases in Airborne Business Park

Leave a commentIs there a floor plan this size to accommodate them downtown?
Seems to be a common issue.
Awesome news, are these new Federal jobs for WNY. Great looking building too, like what you see when you travel to booming parts of the country!
You're right. A win is a win. We should be attracting development around the airport.
Of course everyone wants it downtown, but not tenant wants or should be downtown. If HSA wants to be by the airport so be it.
If HSBC wants a brand new building they should have it.
Yay... more tax money going to the ever-growing federal jobs program. And in DHS! Awesome!
And it looks like any glass-and-metal office building anywhere else in the USA. Boring and cheap, I guess.
this, this is incredible news for the whole region. The good news keeps coming for our turnaround. I pass b this building all the time and its awesome
Cool. I would guess being close to the airport was a factor in choosing the area.
That would be my guess too. (The location is due to airport proximity).
If they built this in Buffalo so many of you would be bitching that it looks to suburban or doesn't fit in with the built environment. I'm happy to see new jobs moving to the area.
Did I miss the article saying anything about new jobs? The agency is leasing new space. Doesn't mean jobs. Can someone clarify?
BTW I don't care if it was in the city or on the moon, looks like suburbia-doodoo.
why do you got to be so negative about EVERYThINg we are finaly turning things around and you got to complain.
I agree with you, don't see anything about new jobs, just a shift from one building to another. Yup, this is a HUGE help in our "turn around".
It's being leased by the GSA. It is the purchasing arm of the government. It has nothing to do with DHS at the airport or in the Calspan building. It really could of been downtown (or the moon) because there is more "clients" downtown.
Obviously I'm not an urban planner, architect or know it all like everyone else. I read the Buffalo News.
I guess due to Avant, Uniland gets a free pass? If this were a Ciminelli building, the outrage would be loud and clear, calling it suburban sprawl and whining about why it should be in Buffalo.
Homeland Security appears to be moving a nearly brand new building at 6400 Sheridan in Amherts near Transit. Moving an office from one local to another within the same region is not only not helpful, it's negative. It creates a vacancy chain that results in an empty space somewhere. We continue to play checkers and reach a stalemate.
Stop trying to justify this with argument about new jobs (there are none), or being close to the airport (which is more important, being close to the airport laoded with TSA agents or close to the miles of unprotected border from PA to Youngstown), or questions of available space (if you do your homework, you'd have figured out that the total space of the building is not the same as what they're leasing, which is actually only 24,000 square feet, which is plentiful in Buffalo with some minor interior updates to accomodate upgraded office needs).
Bottomline is this story is irrelevant and inconsequential. No jobs. No re-entry by an employer into the CBD. Just more sprawl.
So how is this good again?
WAAAAAAAH WAAAAAAH WAAAAAAH WAAAAAAAH. With a frame of mind like that I really do fee in a way sorry for you.
@BurchJP> Better let mommy know you need that diaper changed again.
ouch, burn, psssst, hehehehe. good one bobby!!!!
Where does the article state that there are NO new jobs.
Rather than have the readers speculate, perhaps Buffalo Rising could ask the parties involved and update the story:
- Are there new jobs associated with the announcement?
- Was this DHS department leasing space at another WNY location?
- Did DHS specifically request the suburbs, or were city properties considered?
- Did Uniland offer DHS both city and suburban locations?
- What specifics (cost, location, floor plates, parking) drove the DHS decision?

another effective project for the city. Its a shame that it could not be next to the other modern emergency response building downtown. I guess the location is in a more significant area and its all about the quality of service.
