The exhibition, opening 12 days earlier than expected, is based on the hit movies and C.S. Lewis' series of books. Global Experience Specialists, Inc. (GES) partners with Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media to produce the 5,000 square-foot exhibit featuring scenes from the world of Narnia. Authentic costumes, props, and set dressings will all be available in three dimensions for an entertaining and educational experience for viewers.
"Bringing unique travelling exhibit experiences to Western New York and Southern Ontario is one of the main objectives of our strategic plan," said Mark Mortenson, president and CEO of the Buffalo Museum of Science. "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Exhibition provides a fun and interactive experience that also emphasizes science literacy and learning."
Viewers will have an opportunity to see the original wardrobe from C.S. Lewis' study. A replica of the White Witch's Throne will be available and allow visitors to have a seat upon the frozen throne. A medieval catapult will be on display and tour goers will be allowed to lift a real sword that was used in the Narnia movies.
The film's creatures will be on display in an area where visitors can recreate creatures from the movie or construct their own. The area will have three stacks of rotating blocks in three, four, and six-foot tall configurations with each having a different part of the creature. Visitors can use the blocks to build creatures from the movie or build their own.
The exhibit also teaches real life lessons in geography, archeology, engineering, humanity's impact on nature, and environmental changes. Viewers will be able to see a behind the scenes look at the science of filming The Chronicles of Narnia.
"This exhibition is a truly captivating and entertaining experience for all ages," said GES EVP and Chief Creative Officer Eddie Newquist. "From the scene displays and props seen in the Narnia films, to the scientific and educational aspects of the exhibition that stimulate the senses and the mind, guests will be transported into another world to experience Narnia like never before."
The exhibition begins Monday and will continue through May 8th, 2011. Adult tickets cost $2 for museum members and $10 for non-members. Entry to the exhibition also allows visitors to view the museum's other halls. Hours of the exhibit will be 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday - Thursday and 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Fridays beginning February 4th.
