On Friday, February 11, Transform, Love, Connect: Buffalo, Buffalo First! and the Canal Side Community Alliance will be hosting a free concert to encourage the public to get involved with the development of the Canal Side area of the Inner Harbor .
"Buffalo Harbors: A Concert for Our Waterfront" will feature local artists who want to help spread the word about this development movement. The line-up includes Stu Fuchs (of Babik), On Guard, Mel Latimer, A Relative Term and Breckenwood. These artists will provide the audience with a good variety of music, ranging from folk songs to rock.
The evening will include much more than good music, however. The organizers are providing several opportunities for those in attendance to interact and learn more about potential development of the Inner Harbor and how it could become a center of green economic and cultural growth. There will be artists present who will be painting a picture of potential waterfront plans. Audience members will be able to hear about the proposed Community Benefits Agreement and offer their own ideas on how the waterfront could be transformed. Everyone will also be provided with a "Buffalo Harbors: A History of Waterfront Development" pamphlet that will explain who is behind this movement, where one can get more information, and who to get in touch with to get involved with the project.
TLC Buffalo and Squeaky Wheel will also be putting on two interactive exhibits. The first is called "Against The Granary," which will be a projection on a cutout replica of the grain silos located along the Outer Harbor. Audience members will be able to select videos from YouTube to project or play one of the pre-selected videos that convey Buffalo's beautiful architecture. These videos will also incorporate the theme of green regeneration. The second exhibit, entitled "Infinite Canal," is a DIY poster design project. Visitors can select a cutout of a waterfront property and write down their thoughts for future developments.
The concert will be held downtown at The Game Room from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The venue is located at 700 Main Street. The event will be free, family-friendly and open to all ages. Donations will be accepted to benefit the organizations hosting the event and their plans for the future. Refreshments will be provided by Caz Café of South Buffalo and Liquid Energy Juice Café, who will be revealing a brand new drink at this event.
