Mindi May has always been known for her optimistic outlook and love of life. With her infectious smile, her positive affect can brighten anyone's day. Mindi's willingness and determined nature is very apparent to those who have the pleasure of knowing her. Her desire to live life to the fullest does not waver even in the face of her greatest opponent, cancer. Mindi is without a doubt an incredible and perfect example of how each of us should strive to live life, especially in times of great personal difficulty.
Last April, just days after her 32nd birthday, Mindi was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Within weeks of her diagnosis, she made the difficult decision to have a malignant tumor removed and to undergo a hysterectomy. During those few short weeks, Mindi managed to move out of her apartment, finish her college finals and graduate with Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Buffalo.
In June, Mindi ended up back in the hospital with an abdomen infection. At that time her white blood cell count was normal and it appeared she had been successful in her battle against cancer. Unfortunately in November 2010, just months after her first diagnosis, Mindi began to fight yet another battle.
What her General Practitioner had hoped was tonsillitis, turned out to be something much worse. As we were spending Thanksgiving Day with our family and friends, Mindi was being admitted to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, where she learned of a new diagnosis, Acute Myeloid Leukemia, or AML. AML is an aggressive form of cancer of the blood and bone marrow. This cancer grows from cells that would normally turn into blasts that in a healthy person form into white blood cells and fight infection; however with AML the blasts are abnormal and cannot fight infection. Under the care of Roswell, Mindi underwent multiple intense chemotherapy treatments for four weeks. On Christmas day Mindi was allowed to go home.
Three times a week Mindi goes to Roswell for outpatient chemotherapy treatment. Mindi's life struggle is only in the beginning stages. With everyone's emotional, spiritual and financial support, we can ensure that the "Scoreboard" remains 2-0! Mindi-2 Cancer-0!!!

It’s unfortunate that U.S.A. is the only developed country that your family has to pan handle for our health care. This is seen more and more every day and to pay 2 to 3 times the price than ever one else does for health care. So sad...
did you ever wonder why people from countries with free health care come here for treatment? Check out survival rates for cancer here in the US compared to Canada and Europe. Your pan handle comment was uncalled for and ignorant. Choose your words better if you want to make a point.
