RoboRoc @ Noir

RoboRoc @ Noir
This Thursday night expect to see music fans with glow sticks and bodies covered in glow paint coming from the direction of Noir nightclub.  The club hosts a weekly eighteen-and-over live house and dubstep music night.  The brainchild of Pat and Chris Williams, only 24 and 22 years old respectively, the music night has increased its attendance from about 25 people the first week to over 600 attendees in subsequent weeks.

I spoke with Pat, a member of the alternative band Colors in the Air, who represents his brother Chris (aka RoboRoc) in his musical endeavors.  Pat told me that he originally hosted an 'open mic night' at the now defunct Croc Bar. When the bar changed hands, the owners of Noir approached him to host another night and that's when he decided to change things up.  Seeing that the scene lacked a weekly dubstep and house night, Pat saw this as an opportunity for Chris to make a name for himself.

Despite a family background of rock and symphonic musicians, Chris didn't discover a passion for electronic music until Pat opened his eyes to the simplicity of making his own tracks using a program called Propellerhead Reason.  From that point forward, Chris immersed himself into music production, starting with hip-hop.  He then delved deeper into electronic music and as recently as four months ago began DJ-ing.  Seeking inspiration from such artists as Bassnectar, Eskmo, and Deadmau5, Chris quickly established himself as a producer.

The brothers are continually looking at ways to expand and improve their night by bringing in fresh faces and new equipment.  Currently, Chris performs with traktor, a trigger pad,10,000watts of sound, and on any given night you can find him hard at work in the studio or delivering a solid performance to fans.

To keep up-to-date with Chris and his work, visit RoboRoc.net or Roboroc on facebook.

Get to Noir (88 W. Chippewa) early for this week's glow-party themed night.  $3 before 11pm, and then the cover is $5 for everyone eighteen and over.
