Artist, environmentalist, educator: Ann Peterson does it all. With a BA in Studio Art and a MA in Spanish Language and Literature, Peterson combines her creative energies with her love of the natural, beautiful, and exotic in her gallery Mundo Images, one of Buffalo's newest and most exciting artistic spaces. Following a career that included teaching English as a foreign language in Europe and Central America, teaching Spanish in America, leading eco-trips to Central America, working on a biological reserve in the Galápagos, and working with endangered Leatherback turtle programs in Costa Rica and Panama, Peterson created Mundo Images in 2007 to showcase the photography from her many travels (as well as images from Western New York) and as a platform for her environmentally friendly photographic greeting cards; the gallery is described as a "culmination of Ann's love of exploring the world with photography, educating young people, and working to improve the environment."
After a successful 2007 showing at the New York Stationary Show, Peterson's cards are now sold in 40 states and Canada, with her printers located in Allentown. Mundo Images takes pride in making environmentally friendly decisions, and the vibrant, carefully crafted cards--which are grouped into categories such as Animal Instincts, Food For Thought, Global Inspiration, Irish Wisdom, Love Stories, Mundo Español, Nature's Voice, Season's Greetings, and Spring Celebration--are acid free, yet age resistant and biodegradable, and are printed on FSC certified paper to promote socially beneficial, economically viable, and environmentally appropriate management of the earth's forests. A portion of each card's sale goes to Conservation International.
Mundo Images plans to open this February at 500 Franklin St. in Buffalo. More information on the gallery can be found at its website mundoimages.com, or call toll-free at 877.236.8636 (28-MUNDO). Mundo Images' fax number is 716.833.8636.
