On Friday, January 28th from 6pm-9pm, a design competition will be presented at The Eights Bistro (888 Main Street between Virginia and Allen). The organizers will be calling for architects, designers and anyone else who cares about sustainable living, to discuss potential sites before submitting a work that showcases best practice scenarios. From Designing to Live Sustainably 2011 regarding the preview event:
Designing to Live Sustainably 2011 is an architectural design competition for the Buffalo-Niagara region that focuses on sustainability. We seek entries from a national audience to select a physical location and answer the question, "How would you design this space to be truly sustainable for our region."
A final event will showcase and celebrate both the top three winners chosen by an expert jury along with the people's choice pick. We strive for this competition to catalyze professionals and the public to begin a dialogue on what is created throughout the process.

Sounds like a great segway into Buffalo's "green" zoning code rewrite. Could not be more perfectly timed! The City is, in essence, determining exactly how each neighborhood in Buffalo would be designed sustainably. Be sure to show at the nine neighborhood meetings in late February and early March!
