It was the Upper West Arts Center, formerly the Richmond Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church, that was the real head turner. The entire structure was frosted over, concealing any hints that there was a red facade underneath. First Presbyterian's spire was also stunning to see, as was the Gothic Saint Louis Church, which only showed traces of medina sandstone. This was the first time that I had ever seen any of these structures change in appearance due to winter's frosty fickleness. I spoke to one gentleman outside of the Upper West Side Arts Center who commented on the building's architectural beauty. I pointed out the frosted casing, and he was suddenly struck that the church was not naturally gray in color - that's how powerful the impact was.

Leave a commentHow about their names, clockwise? I know First Prez, but . . .
upper westside arts center? a friend who can see it from her house says she has never seen anyone go in or out of it in over 4 years.
A status update on the WSAC would be a good BRO topic. I haven't heard much about the project in years.
Great photos!
I almost had to pull over on my way into work today when i drove by the "WSAC". It was really an unusual and interesting site to witness this morning. Great pictures!
But to echo what others have already said, it would be nice to know more about this building as I'm not really up to date on the WSAC. It has looked like a vacant church, as of late.
The Statler Towers were dressed in a similar garb today and it had a striking effect on the appearance, i actually almost hit a car in front of me because it was such a head turner
WSAC has been the baby of Neil Radice from the Alleyway Theatre. Would love to know how much he has invested in this facility and if any of those funds were public funds. It seems he wants to make the place another Babeville-like venue. I live in the neighborhood and haven't seen any activity in or around the place in years...but the place sure is a treasure.
it's time for Monday Mystery: Winter Edition
One benefit of the cold weather. They were beautiful this morning.
i thought i was going to hear some crazy alice glass in this post

...but frozen churches are cool too!
This is another topic at BR that isn't the same-old-same- old. Nice!
i saw this effect at lafayette presbyterian, too.
These images stuck in my mind and I had a hard time finding the story again, tried "ice", "bricks", etc. What a gorgeous natural phenomenon. I'm so glad it was photographed. Thanks!
