Snooty Fox Lounge: Where Dining Meets Nightlife

Snooty Fox Lounge: Where Dining Meets Nightlife
Snooty Fox Lounge is Buffalo's best-kept secret when it comes to Sicilian cuisine. Visit at 5pm any day of the week and I can guarantee you a sophisticated, jazzy, upscale experience complete with a professional upbeat staff. Set in one of Buffalo's beautiful, late 19th century brick buildings, Snooty Fox along with much of the updated wood craftsmanship (completed at the hands of owner Sal Buscaglia) is a story in itself.

Sal is a hardworking, passionate man that truly appreciates the fact that his business has become one of the Queen City's premier hot spots. The place has it all - it's a great place to unwind after work, dine with family and friends, or enjoy a night out on the town... Snooty seems to have found the perfect balance. In addition to their weekly happy hour deals, Snooty also hosts Buffalo's best 'industry night' on Sunday evenings, allowing the city's hardworking bar and restaurant staff to enjoy food and drink specials on their night off.  It is here that Sal and I recently caught up to discuss his seemingly ever-growing business. We did not talk Captain & Cokes or cosmos; we talked cuisine. Only the freshest, imported ingredients compose the authentic homemade recipes handed down by Sal's parents (he is 100% Sicilian).  Sal is responsible for every facet of the meal, from ordering the finest ingredients to arranging the final presentation.  The menu and the look of the restaurant both change with the season.

I started with the Naked Shrimp which were huge, flavorful and could not get any fresher.  After a half pint of Purple Haze beer and some good conversation, our waitress Shannon brought out what honestly could have been the best flatbread I have ever tasted.  The Diavolo marries roasted banana peppers, sweet red peppers, assorted cheeses, seasonings and olive oil.  It had the perfect amount of kick and easily could have been a meal in itself.   Next, Muscoli Scampi - delicious mussels sautéed in garlic infused olive oil and white wine.  I honestly didn't take the time to savor, they were that good.  The Snooty Steak is simply a perfectly prepared espresso rubbed filet topped with prosciutto and gorgonzola butter. The filet was just as tasty as any steak I have had from other local premier restaurants. In true Sicilian style, I wasn't done yet.  If you love poultry, you must order the Almond Encrusted Chicken.  Two giant marinated breasts encrusted with almonds, panko and Romano over garlic spinach angel hair pasta.  I rarely order chicken when I dine out (especially when at an Italian / Sicilian restaurant), but as I will be visiting again soon, I can honestly say that it will be tough to not order this dish!

Snooty-food-Buffalo-NY.jpg

A visit to Snooty Fox would not be complete without one of the most popular specialties on the menu- the meatballs.  I am half Italian, you would not know by my last name, and very picky when it comes to red sauce and meatballs.  The meatballs at Snooty are the best- a family secret recipe served with ricotta and fresh bread for dipping. The sauce is perfect for those who prefer either a sweeter sauce or a pork-based sauce... it has great balance.  To all you foodies out there, taste the food for yourself and feel free to come back to this post and share your eating experience.   I loved the Purple Haze beer that accompanied the tasting, but SFL has an excellent wine selection that must not be ignored.

Snooty Fox Lounge is a labor of love.  Sal Buscaglia pays enormous attention to detail and is proud of every miniscule facet of his business.  For those of you who do not know how delicious the food is at Snooty - you're missing the good stuff.  Trust me.

" I am half Italian, you would not know by my last name, and very picky when it comes to red sauce and meatballs."

Really? I didn't know it was just "Italians" that were able properly judge a meatball and red sauce. My family is from Italy, I am not, and the sauce & meatballs my grandparents made was FAR FAR different than ANYTHING I've had here which is all "Americanized" anyways.

Snooty isn't a bad place, the atmosphere can get a little nuts but overall the times I've been there it was good.

What time is dinner actually served? I was there once at night for drinks and I really did not see any tables in the place, only a couch or two.

There's a nice dining room in the back (with an awful gigantic television that does not belong in a dining room, by the way)

Snooty Fox's meatballs are the best in the city. I love this place's food.

good to hear that the food is good, because the name is a real turn-off. which i know is not a rational response, but i just can't get past it.

I have been going to the Snooty Fox since it opened and have befriended the owner and staff for years. The service is better than any other place like it in the city.

Forget Nektar and Mother's. The food here is better and more original. Not only that, Sal and the staff change the menu several times a year to keep it fresh AND have a weekly specials menu. Food is served from open until 2am I believe, although if you go on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night after 9, the drink crowd doesn't allow you to eat very easily unless you get a table in the back room, which anyone can do if you just ask.

I feel that the small size makes the place feel more comfortable. No one wants to go eat at an enormous restaurant and be only one of 3 tables, it feels awkward.

I don't care for the slant Jim (the author) put in his article suggesting his superior palette for Italian food, but so be it.

That being said, I love this place, and I will go there as long as it is open!

I'm glad to hear they have good food. I was there with a friend later in the evening and it felt like I'd stepped into The Jersey Shore. The perfume and cologne were thicker than at the make-up counter at Macy's during the holiday season. Not an experience I care to repeat.

I have eaten there four times. Each time the food and service were outstanding.
The first time there it was late and the kitchen just closed. We said to the guy working that we were really hungry. He opened the kitchen up for us and the food was fantastic.

I don't think it’s a secret anymore. The words are out and Snooty Fox is on its game. It does get a bit crowded at times . The cozy, warm atmosphere and woodwork is great. We live in the area and have been to just about every bar restaurant in the area and eat out often. This is what Buffalo needs, a boost in our Image and a place where you can have great food, great atmosphere and feel safe. Open one in the Southtowns. For a lounge the food is exceptional.

Snooty Fox Lounge is a classy and unique dining experience. The atmosphere is special in the sense that it makes you feel at home. The ever changing menu makes it hard to decide what to order every time there since you cannot go wrong with your choice. From the delicious flatbread pizzas (many choices) , to a great steak or a sampler with the homemade meatballs and sauce, you will not be disappointed. I support an owner (Sal Buscaglia) who can take a building, with his own hard work, and turn it into a GREAT dining experience for all of us to enjoy. C'mon Buffalo, we are a city of neighbors not haters, just go enjoy all Snooty has to offer.

I don't know what Captain Save-A-Ho means but it does sound kinda awesome. Also, your blog doesn't register any traffic on either compete or quantcast but nothing says big shooter blogger like a subdomained blogspot blog. Props to you for that amazing site.

Also, your blogspot profile does show a cool 262 views since 9/2009. That's like .5 views a day. You are blowin' up man, definitely on par with this site for traffic.

Considering that I average about $225 a month in Google AdSense revenue, that is the best indication of decent traffic.

Don't know where you got the impression I "don't like" Buffalo Rising. Though I am an expat Buffalonian, I still have business interests there, and Newell (the ringleader of the BRO Circus) happens to be a friend.

I'm sorry that you didn't like my comment, but it's pretty obvious that Sal is a buddy of yours. Your comment sounds like someone trying to boost a friend's business.

No matter. Whichever one of you left that racial slur on my blog did so anonymously, so I don't put much stock in people who hide behind masks for the purpose of berating others in sad, sorry trolling attempts.

You fit the exact definition of an internet troll.

From Wikipedia:

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]"
