Hay Fever by Cassie Elsaesser:
With winter weather here, its time to bundle up in this seasons key wardrobe pieces. Of course there are the cold weather basics such as coats, scarves, boots and sweaters but just like the seasons, fashion trends are quick to change.
Lets start with the coats. This years runways are filled with with capes of every length and color and this trend is rapidly becoming one of the hottest of the season. Phillip Lim chose basic neutral colors for his winter capes, in grays and shades of brown. These can easily translate to any outfit and for someone who wants to take a bit of a risk with fashion but not go overboard, a neutral understated cape is a perfect way to do so. G star went a bit bolder with his cape color palette, using bold yellows and bright blues, this a great look for all of you brazen fashionistas out there who want to a go a little over the top with your cold weather ensemble. Hints of fur (preferably faux fur, no need to harm an innocent animal) are making their mark on this seasons winter coats, designers like Barbara Frank and Carolina Herrera are using hints of fur around the necklines and sleeves of their jackets and a "hint" is just enough to wear this trend and keep fashionable this season. For the men pea coats in neutral and plaid colors are a hot trend this season. Adding a touch of plaid, such as an accessory compliments any outfit. There are various shades of plaid, if you're not into bold dark red plaids, go for the subtle earthy, larger spaced plad print items , such as trouser pants.
Billy Reid used gray and camel colored winter jackets atop bulky winter sweaters to complete his runway ensembles, pea coats for men always add a level of sophistication to an ensemble and are perfect way to keep cozy and classy this season.
Of course to really stay cozy this winter sweaters are a perfect way to do so. Fortunately for women the cozier the better, "grandpa" sweaters for women are very popular this season. Pairing a baggy sweater with a maxi skirt or leggings is a perfect way to wear this trend, adding a belt pulls your ensemble together perfectly. For men, knit sweaters are also trending for the chilly weather. A knit sweater under a structured winter plaid jacket will keep you warm and stylish these upcoming months. Layering your winter sweaters is also being seen on the runway for winter. Andrew Buckler layered turtlenecks and button up shirts under his button up sweaters for men and for the women Benhaz Sarafpour layered sweaters as well, with long sleeve undershirts peaking out of cropped neutral colored sweaters.
Scarves and gloves are a perfect way to add fashionable accessories to any woman's ensemble and keep warm this season. Thick bulky scarves that seem never ending are great for bundling up and also great for pulling any winter look together. Long gloves are being seen as a key trend for these chilly upcoming months, Carolina Herrera and Brian Reyes used long gloves to complete their runway looks and are a great accessory to complete yours. Lace up boots are being seen everywhere this season and are a fantastic way to add style to a winter outfit, Tommy Hilfiger paired knee high lace up boots with skirts and dresses, whereas Richard Chai used a shorter ankle lace up bootie to complete his runway looks. Whatever the length a lace up boot is a key must have for this season.
This seasons trends are fashionable AND practical (whoever said fashion over function?) investing in these key winter pieces will warm you up without leaving you out in the cold this winter!
