Beginning on November 7, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery will be featuring an exhibit that commemorates the last 40 years of the Buffalo Sabres' history.
"Forty: The Sabres in the NHL" will be a unique display comprised of over 200 photographs of the Sabres in action and a film that documents the Sabres' history as an NHL team. There will be a video installation titled "NHL in 360°" which will give audience members the chance to experience a hockey game as if they were on the ice as it was taking place.
"This exhibition is a visual journey rich with memories of long ago," said Louis Grachos, director of the Albright-Knox. "It also reveals the passion, beauty and grit of professional hockey." The show will also show behind-the-scenes shots of the coaches, staff and fans who have been cheering the team on since day one.
The video installation was produced by the Buffalo Sabres' director of broadcasting Chrisanne Bellas, lead broadcast editor Drew Boeing and videographer Mark Blaszak. The photographers who contributed to the show are Ron Moscati, Robert Shaver and Bill Wippert. Moscati will be giving an artist talk on Sunday, January 2 at 3 p.m. and Wippert will also be giving a talk about his work on January 7 at 7 p.m.
The exhibit will run from November 7 through January 9, 2011. The opening day will start at 10 a.m. and go until 10 p.m. The exhibition opening will also include a family fun day that starts at 1:30 p.m. From January 2nd to the 5th, the Stanley Cup and other trophies will also be on display.
Admission to the exhibition and related events is free to members of the gallery. Admission for non-members will be $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, $10 for students ages 13 and up and $5 for children ages 6 to 12. Admission for children ages 5 and under is free.
