Fundraiser for the Buffalo Tanzania Education Project

Fundraiser for the Buffalo Tanzania Education Project
By Erin Comerford:

The holiday season is right around the corner and soon the malls will be bustling with shoppers seeking out the perfect gifts. While it is the season of giving to our loved ones, it is also a time to remember those most in need. However, the question often arises, "To whom do I give?" If you are one of these people, look no further. Why not consider supporting the Buffalo Tanzania Education Project [BTEP] at their fundraiser on December 2nd.

The project, itself, is coordinated by the UB Center for Educational Collaboration and was founded as a multifaceted initiative focusing on women and girls in the Mara region of Tanzania.  Mara Huber, Special Assistant to the President for Educational Initiatives and founder of the project, states, "The Buffalo Tanzania Education Project is founded on the belief that through strategic collaboration and engagement, we can all make a difference in the world. By engaging the four core areas of focus (education; economics; health; infrastructure) we seek to build capacity and quality of life for girls and women in the Mara Region while providing meaningful engagement opportunities for UB and surrounding communities."

The fundraising event will benefit the Early Childhood Center being established in the Mara region of Tanzania. The event will feature performances by local artists, presentation on the BTEP model, and strategic partnerships to empower women and girls of Tanzania. There will also be post show concessions to benefit other BTEP projects including: construction of a secondary school for girls, water purification and sanitation and donations toward the purchase of solar cookers.

The fundraiser is being held in 100 Allen Hall, UB South Campus on Thursday December 2nd, from 6pm - 8pm. For more information contact Katie Biggie:  kjbiggie@buffalo.edu or 716-829-3099. To purchase tickets online visit:  www.wepay.com/tickets/buy/1732

Very commendable charity. Don't forget about the homeless in Buffalo too that would love an education, clean water and sanitation.
