NY Governor Debate: Rent is Too Damn High

NY Governor Debate: Rent is Too Damn High
The one and only debate amongst the *cough* candidates for governor of New York has just wrapped up.  We'll have more details on the debate over the coming days but, in the meantime, you should really check out one candidate's website.  Jimmy McMillan has his own party - the Rent is Too Damn High Party - and he's on the ballot.  Now sure, the rent being too damn high is largely a downstate problem but website awesomeness isn't restricted to one part of the state.

Before you click over to the site and spend the rest of your week there, we'd like to point out that it has walking skeletons, some kind of flying yellow bird, an approximate range of rental rates in NYC and an unbelievable soundtrack.  If you're worried about too much awesome, turn down your volume. Otherwise, crank the volume and let the site wash over you

Did you watch tonight's debate?  Were you most impressed by Cuomo? Paladino? Jimmy McMillman? The former madam? The former Black Panther?

We all know crazy Carl wont win. But wouldn't it be funny if the "rent is too dam high" party guy got more votes than him?

I would have liked to see Carl and Cuomo debate only the issues relevant to the state of New York. I don't think many voters really know where either candidate really stands except on hot button issues. It would have at least stimulated a little further discussion and forced these guys to offer up more of a credible plan.

This is happening all over the country where fear and pandering has replaced serious thought. Voters driven by misplaced anger buy into simplistic ideas usually blaming government, the poor, foreigners, gays, blacks or some other group with little wealth or political power.

A person would have had to been in a coma for the past few years not to know that it was the right with their obsessive hatred of government regulation and oversight along with greed of big business, the wealthy,(and many middle class) that almost destroyed our economy.

If the right wants to be taken seriously they need to move past the same tired old arguments. Tax cuts for the wealthy and less government has proven to be a disaster for most of America.

I liked Warren Redlich, the Libertarian Candidate. He's got my vote.

He was the most refreshing of the group.

I had personally set the bar pretty low for Paladino, but I thought he didn't even clear that.

I was surprised that I had to watch it online (did I miss it on a FIOS channel?). Did anyone else think that a local affiliate would pick it up?

I heard it on the radio, AM 970, still entertaining though I didn't get to see the bearded one.

The dude is a Vietnam Vet and has THREE BSMs. Not to mention he has the most wicked facial hair since the 1860's. Still, it'd be nice if he wasn't acting like upstate was the NVA. Might not win, but props for the service. Go Army.

Blackrock, WTF are you talking about? You're a Cuomo voter without even thinking twice.

As if there's ANYTHING Carl could say or do that would make you vote for him.

And that's fine, honestly, but at least be honest about it. Don't sell us your BS line about want a real debate on only "relevant" issues (who the hell are you to say what's relevant or not?).

You want frigging detail? Cuomo has a 200 PAGE BOOK detailing all kinds of stuff that sounds good and might work if he can get anything done.

Blaming they mysterious "right" for all your problems is just pathetic.

Actually I am not real excited about Cuomo, the Democrats and Republicans are too far right and too cozy with big business, the wealthy, and other assorted special interests.

Carl is too erratic, too hateful, and too narrow minded to even consider, most voters seem to agree.

Not sure what you mean about "blaming the mysterious right for all your problems", I don't have any problems, I live within my means, pay my taxes, and get along just fine. I blame the right for the mess this country is in, it was their greed driven radical ideology that resulted in the financial collaspe, again most voters seem to agree.

Funnier then anything I've seen on SNL in years.

This was a joke. This state is a joke.

90 seconds to answer, 30 seconds for rebuttal, one word answer on gay marriage? Seriously?

Cuomo sounded like the same old, same old Albany politician.
YUK!

rb09 - a 90 second answer and 30 second rebuttal isn't all that uncommon in debates. the "one-word" answer on gay marriage was only done because time was running out.

i thought it was a good debate and was pleased that all 7 candidates were represented. some people consider the "fringe" candidates "crazy", but i fail to see how they're any crazier than cuomo or paladino. i'm glad they were there to say their part and think everyone had something worthwhile to contribute to the discussion.

ideally, i would have liked to have seen longer responses as well, but it was already a 90 minute program as is. a second debate would be welcome, but i doubt we'll get it.

Obama is a great president! If he continues like he is for two more years then he might be the best president ever!! He is a genius and he is doing his best to turn the dog turd he inherited from Bush into gold. In just two years he has:
- Stabilized the economy
- Put big greedy bankers in their place
- Put greedy business men in their place
- Leveled the playing field for women and minorities
- Fixed the mess in Iraq
- Made American cars competitive again.
- Made huge strides in universal health care
- Made huge strides in equal rights for gays and lezbians
- Improved relations with other countries (Thanks Hillary!)
- Introduced innovative programs like cash for clunkers
- Expanded unemployment benefits
- Improved life for those most in need
- Made the rich start paying their fare share

And finally, he is working to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

America would be amazing if we just didn't have any repuklicans and teabaggers getting in the way. We could be even better than we are now, yes we can America. Yes we can!

The debate and its discontents are further evidence that we are indeed in a 'race to the bottom.' The rule makers who allowed the debate to be loaded up with ciphers and also-rans did a grave disservice to the voters of New York as the discussion did nothing to illuminate the grave issues which face our state; we instead had to suffer a sideshow populated by half-wits and dullards.

I personally don't like Cuomo much but with his "same old same old" type politics he probably wouldn't make things much worse; Paladino on the other hand is by his own words "not a politician" which could be refreshing if he weren't such a hate filled crazy. There is no doubt that he is a good business man but with the exception of a few, that doesn't make you good for government. I have no respect for anyone that would throw their beliefs and morals out the window too make a buck ie, profiting from homosexual clubs. Normally i don't think his infidelity should matter, but when you claim to be a "good catholic" or morally just then your opening the door for accountability. After all isn't he the one who keeps saying he wants albany to be held accountable? Well cotinuing to respond with i'm a straight shooter or not apologizing your idiotic comments is not justified, its classless and moronic.

Andrew Cuomo is a lot like his father but better. All you really need to know is that he is a lifelong Democrat who looks out for the underdog. He supports smart government much like his father. His leadership will bring great prosperity to New York, this is something that we missed out on when Pataki was Governer. It is about time we had a strong Democrat in the Governor's mansion again. A Governor who will look out for the little guys and the middle class. This is the day we have been longing for since 1994.
