For the past 25 years, Journey's End Refugee Services has been working to help refugees find a new home in the city of Buffalo.
Thursday night, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Tri-Main Center, Journey's End will be celebrating this silver anniversary with a photo show that will feature pictures taken by the very refugees whose lives they have touched. These photos will convey the memories and intimate moments of the refugees' lives, from the time they came to Buffalo until now.
Journey's End collaborated with CEPA Gallery to provide photography equipment to the refugees, as well as lessons on how to use it. Also included in the exhibit will be photos of the ancestors of fellow Buffalonians.
In addition to the photo show, the evening will include an open house to celebrate the grand opening of their new location at the Tri-Main Center on Main Street. When they began 25 years ago, Journey's End consisted of a group of local churches volunteering to help resettle refugees. They had initially hoped to achieve the goal of helping 40 refugees each year. This year, the non-profit has resettled over 450 people, and this number continues to grow every week.
The art opening is expected to have over 200 attendees, including the photographers and their families. The new location of Journey's End is 2495 Main Street, Suite 317. Those attending the show and open house can find parking on Halbert Street. Tickets are available online for $30 at jersbuffalo.org/25. For more information, call 716-882-4963.
