198/33 Improvements

198/33 Improvements
Although I wish that this stretch of the 198/33 was getting covered or turned into a boulevard thus reconnecting the city, one of BRO's viewers pointed out that some of the improvements being made right now are a sight for sore eyes. For far too long, the metal safety barriers have looked terrible - dented up and rusted over in many parts. Even some of the overpasses are being spruced up. Our viewer pointed out the following:

1) The new concrete 'fencing' going up along the 33 as you get closer to downtown.  It's pretty nice and much better than the rusted metal fencing that has been there.

2) I also noticed one of the pedestrian bridges, as soon as you go from the 198 to the 33 going downtown, it must have been redone, and it looks really nice!

You can see the small metal/iron details they put into it with the Buffalo logos on the side.  There are couple other details on that bridge that are much nicer than the other pedestrian bridges.  I like the arch on it too, to give it some form.

The fence is also right.  All I know is that Lafarge is providing the concrete, but they are using self consolidating concrete (SCC) which cures much faster.  I've noticed how fast they've formed theses fences, it's b/c of the SCC which let's them do so.  They seem to be moving out of the city more and more, so they are progressing further.  I also believe there is some detail to be installed on top of the fence too.

Well, myth busters proved you can polish a turd. Google it.

Also the big stone bridge on the 198 going over Delaware Ave has been repointed, and they are finishing up new landscaping around it on the Delaware Ave part.

I agree it's lipstick on a pig, but at least it's a nice shade!

We should return the 33 to above ground streets and the Humbolt parkway. Just close the entire 33 span down from Eggert Road to Oak Street. Remove the 198 Scajacuda Expressway and return the street grid. Downgrade the skyway and put in a single-span surface level draw-bridge. We should close down the Thruway from the Peace Bridge to Ogden Street and return the surface level streets.

After we return the street map to 1940, we build a huge wall around the city to keep all the suburbanites out. If people want to work downtown, they have to live in the city. People in the suburbs can keep the suburbs. The only easy way in to the city is mass transit or bike path, these will provide direct access from park and ride lots to the business district, the consolidated ECC campus, Buffalo State, the downtown retail district (isolated from the suburb strip malls) and the new downtown UB campus. Isolate the suburbs and people will either decide to live in the city or businesses will move to the suburbs. The suburbs can't offer high-rise development, they can't offer the waterfront, and they can't compete with the existing infrastructure in the city. After people move back, we can take down the walls, expand mass transit, and build sensible highways. We need to take a few steps back to move forward.

the first third of your take I suspected you were just Christy-Lou changing monikers again. The middle third I was convinced you were spoofing, dripping with sarcasm. I was going to give you a thumbs up. But then the last third I couldn't quite tell, but you seemed almost serious. In which case I thought you should substitute 'high' for 'box'.

Any pictures of the opposite side of the concrete fence? It looked like there were some engravings along Cherry Street side.
