New Sabres Uniforms - Again?
Comments
Leave a commentThe gussets were on the old ones weren't they? And, come on, you coulda come up with something better than Porcelain Tim.
3rd Jersey = yawn. Unoriginal iron-on label is poor. PS: No one ouside of Buffalo will get it.
Away White = Fine. It's an away white.
i dont think they look that bad at all, the new third simple, nice nod to the bisons, and the new white, awesome, always loved the white "throwbacks"
as for the jersey changes, post lockout sure we switched to the slug, then had the new rbk format now our new homes. but look at our sister team the canucks they've gone through about 4-5 color changes and about 20 different jerseys.
Great looking- it is only sad that it took this long to get Jerseys that capture the spirit of the Sabres and Buffalo. The goat and slug are terrible designs, and should be quickly forgotten. I have not purchased a jersey since 1989 because I have been waiting for something like this to come along. I also think that the third jersey is great because it showcases the city - unlike another team that erases all allusions to Buffalo when playing in "regional" games.
its nice to see them going back to the family crest that the Knox brothers designed.
Big deal. Win some playoff games and I might be convinced to spend good money on a "new" sweater.
I really like the retro look of this uniform. I may not buy one but I think it's the best yet. Compare this with the "Elsie with Mad Cow Disease" Jersey (quote from Jim Kelly)and you'll agree I am sure that this is much more refined and traditional. We're gearing up for the tradition of winning the cup! Can't wait. We are going to win the most coveted trophy in sports. Lord Stanley's Cup is coming to Buffalo.
They're way more attractive than previous editions. I'd be proud to wear these around and that's about all I can ask for.
Let's go, Knox-blue-and-gold!
the whites are a nice look-back at the old home jerseys, though they reversed the waistline stripes rom gold-blue-gold to blue-gold-blue, which looks a bit unnatural. Also, they had to throw in all of their little silver touches. Larry Quinn just cannot accept true tradition over crappy modernization...
on the other hand, i love the 40th anniv sweater. i think its very classy looking, and very OLD as well with its unusual striping.
all that said, i agree with the sentiment of the ever-changing carosel of jerseys. I wish they'd just go back to the original designs forever and be done with it, instead of clammoring for ways to scrape more money from the bottom of our already starving wallets.
To hell with a new jersey !!! Win the Stanley cup already.
This city is NOT forward thinking and the Buffalo sportd teams represent that idea.
ah Abercrombie and Fitch...actually a kind of like it.
Why bother being secretive when anyone who bought NHL 11, which arrives as early as today, can just see the new uniforms in the game.
What's the big stink about sweaters anyways? Why do most Sabre fans even care?
Man, if they only put half the effort and money into assembling a stanley cup team that they do into their marketing and merchandise we'd have won the Cup a long time ago.
Go ahead, buy another jersey. I'm sure the new "4th Jersey" will come out November 26th and you'll regret that you didn't wait. :/
Nice jerseys....question...which major sports cities (say 2 or more teams have never one a major championship)
Somebody asked the same on yahoo questions. The answer was Charlotte, Nashville, Buffalo, and until February - New Orleans
So, let me get this straight...the 40th anniversary jersey (blue) is the new alternate jersey, white is the new road jersey. Is the home jersey still the slug?
Actually creamcycle I was giving Charlotte a nod for the Stanley Cup, Canes are as much a Charlotte team as the Panthers, either way the number of cities is pretty dam depressing, and considering that Nashville has only been in the pro sports biz for about a decade, that pretty much leaves Buffalo in the basement with San Diego I think. Ironic considering they wre big AFL rivals and they swiped our NBA franchise.
If the people in Raleigh knew they had a hockey team, they'd take exception to the notion that the 'Canes are Charlotte's team.
You're not exaggerating. I bought tickets to game 7 of the ECF in 2006 the day of the game for face value. Try doing that in Buffalo.
Bluedevil- Larry Quinn mentioned the new sweaters for the 40th Anniversary early last season on WGR with Schopp and The Bulldog.
I don't know how many people here have seen the NewBlue&Gold, but they totally took art direction from / ripped off / were inspired by Slaybk's NewBlue&Gold Project ... most clearly:

http://www.newblueandgold.com/uniforms/uniforms_third_1.html
I think if you merge those 2 designs, you'd get what the Sabres were trying to go for. I feel, however, they ended up with something that looks less professional and more like a bad vintage bootleg. I mean look at the B in the script. The one from the Bisons has a very distinct look to it, a look that the NewBlue&Gold mirrored in its concept ... the Sabres just selected any old scripty B. The NewBlue&Gold concept included a Sabre as the underline, do we really need to discuss why thats better ?
I can't find anything in the new official threads that are stronger, design-wise, than those 4 year old concepts. Can anyone help me out ? (And please don't say that ridiculous tiny logo with 1970 jammed in all weird.)

The Sabres, and every other team in the league, have had new sweaters every season for the past x years. It's almost an annual ritual. Because... it makes bucks.

BTW: the pictured sweaters are hideous. Look like a local travel team's.
