FOREVER IN BLUE JEANS by Cassie Elsaesser

Designers are constantly finding new ways to re-invent denim. It is one of our oldest fashion pieces. The first pair of jeans was invented in 1853 by Levi Strauss & Co. One hundred and fifty seven years later jeans are hitting the runways in this seasons hottest trends and the look is breaking all the rules. One of the biggest trends seen coming out, head to toe denim.  This look has been viewed as a fashion faux pas for some time now. The 90's showcased a brief stint of popularity in the head to toe denim look, but since then has been viewed as outdated - that is until now. Faded, ripped, acid washed, patched up, this season's denim trends are no holds barred fun with fashion.

The runways are flooded with top designers using denim ensembles in new and provocative ways. Emanual Ungaro showcased his take on denim with belted boyfriend jeans and broad shouldered shirts tucked into them. Alexander Wang had a different approach with simple and classic denim pieces showcasing a polished casual appeal. The head to toe denim look can be worn as casual and chic, with a baggy denim shirt loosely tucked into a pair of boyfriend jeans, a belt and lace up flats. This look can also be worn sexy and trendy with a fitted denim low cut button up shirt, a pair of skinny jeans and heals.

^National trends

Originally invented not as a fashion item but as a garment for coal miners who were constantly patching up their canvas pants, denim has made it a long way in the world of fashion. Since its start as a clothing item for workingmen, women soon took it and made it their own. Marilyn Monroe made jeans sexy, wearing them in front of millions of 1950s American women. Men on the other hand embraced the rebel status a pair of blue jeans brought following the lead of James Dean and Marlon Brando. Since then we have seen denim take all forms, from bell-bottoms to overalls, boot cut to flares and every shape in between. G Star shows the mechanic's overalls in denim with canary yellow, grass green, or royal blue shirts and accessories.

The cold weather season is a perfect way to experiment with any denim pieces you have. Investing in a cut off denim vest or lace up ankle boots is a great way to amp up any denim look. Tan leather belts and accessories can add those final touches that make this one of fall's must wear looks.
