Call for Cake Decorators

Call for Cake Decorators
Nickel City Cake Challenge: Sweet & Spooky, is second in a series of cake decorating challenges developed by Feed Your Soul, the Buffalo-based company that produces the hit Nickel City Chef series, as well as food tours and other culinary events.

On Sunday, October 24th, 200 audience members will pack the loft showroom of the stunning Artisan Kitchens & Baths building, located on Buffalo's west side. The live, head-to-head cake decorating competition will feature three of the region's most creative and talented cake artists. Each decorator will have only two hours to complete a cake "Sweet & Spooky" enough to win favor from a panel of professional judges.

The audience can watch from their seats, which provide a great view of all three competitors, as well as up close shots from a roving camera, which beams images from the competition kitchens onto the showroom's dozen or more overhead monitors.

Elsewhere in the large refurbished 19th-century warehouse guests can learn specific decorating techniques in the training kitchen or sample complimentary snacks from the event's vendors (Niagara Culinary Institute, Lake Effect Ice Cream, Sarah Walley Events & Niagara Popcorn). Attendees are also given the opportunity to enjoy out-of-this-world treats from the Nickel City confectionery station and custom hot chocolate bar.

Nickel City Cake Challenge is an event designed to celebrate the art of cake decorating and the idea that our region is is home to talented cake decorators who deserve the opportunity to truly showcase their talents in a public forum.

The competition is open to professional cake decorators currently working in independently-owned bakeries located anywhere in the eight counties of the Western New York region. Anyone who wishes to compete may submit an application through September 24th. Applications, guidelines and procedures can be downloaded on the website at www.NickelCityCake.com.

The competition and chosen decorators will be featured in the winter issue of the national magazine, American Cake Decorating.

Twenty cakes from the Amateur Division will also come under the scrutiny of our judges--and the audience. This portion of the contest is open to true amateurs over the age of 16, and two winners will each receive a cash prize. Applications for this portion of the event can also be found at www.NickelCityCake.com, but it should be noted that more than half of the open slots available for this part of the competition have already been filled, so time is of the essence.
