Spiral Scratch Rebounds

Spiral Scratch Rebounds
One of the city's only remaining vinyl shops (more info) is heading to the Elmwood Village. After experiencing a major setback due to a fire at the previous Delaware Avenue location, owner David Palumbo decided to pack his gear and head to where most of his customers originate from anyways. He landed a vacant storefront on Bryant Street, directly between Trattoria Aroma and the future Coffee Culture (corner of Elmwood).  From what I have read on David's blog, the fire took a major toll on the business, but in true Buffalo fashion, the music community rallied and helped David to get back on his feet.

August 11th will mark the first day open in the new location. David is busy getting the place in order, while wondering what sort of changes to expect from the Elmwood neighborhood. David referred to his last location as his clubhouse - a place where he knew his neighbors and lived just down the street. It can be hard to resettle into a different part of town especially when the abrupt cause of the move is due to an event such as a fire.

I can only imagine that there will be some very happy music fans in and around Elmwood and Allentown. It was a real blow to see New World move to Hertel and then eventually close... and Home of the Hits before that. Spiral Scratch's relocation is sure to hit a few chords with fans of vinyl who probably never thought that they would see the day that a small independent record store would open a couple of blocks from where New World set up its first urban shop.

Looking forward to having a record shop in the neighborhood! Since I've moved to the area recently, I've missed having one nearby, such as the fabulous Soundgarden in Syracuse. Thanks for the scoop, queenseyes.

Great to see some life come to this storefront. This little mini commercial district has so much potential.

Very excited that Sprial Scratch will be re-opening soon. I'm sure fellow vinyl nerds feel the same way. It's nice to have a local record store that actually has a good selection of used records and doesn't immediately throw anything good on EBay.

I'm also looking forward to the fact that the new store is slightly bigger than their old location. One Delaware, they hosted some great in-stores, like Grant Hart (from Husker Du) and Greg Cartwright (from the Reigning Sound/the Oblivians). Hopefully they'll do more of these in the future!

So excited to have a record store back in the Elmwood Village. Dave and Marisa are such great supporters of the local music scene. I hope they will be selling more concert tickets this time around too!

so awesome to have spiral scratch in the Elmwood area. What say we seek out another small space and get Home of the Hits back on its feet!
