During a time when most local stories reported are about cutbacks and layoffs, one East Side business is bucking the trend, by expanding and creating jobs.
In a celebration on Thursday afternoon, Eberl Iron Works commemorated the completion of an 8,600 sq. ft. warehouse expansion at their Sycamore Street facility. The expansion increases Eberl's capacity by 46% and will allow for increased inventory, assembly, flexibility and job creation toward their continued growth.
"The expansion of this facility is a clear indication of our commitment to doing business locally and investing in Buffalo," said George Eberl, co-owner. "As a family-owned business spanning three generations, we realize the value of maintaining a strong local presence and continuing to expand our operations on the East Side."
Dating back to its founding in 1923, Eberl has expanded from a small welding shop to a full-service metal fabrication, design and installation facility today. The roots of Eberl Iron Works' 128 Sycamore Street facility can be traced back to the 1880's, when the original brick façade building was built. After several expansions through the 20th century and today, the Eberl Iron Works facility looks to continue to be a mainstay on the city's East Side.
But according to Nora Eberl, CFO and human resources manager, there's much more behind Eberl Iron Works' continued growth than the brick and mortar (and steel) of the facility.
"Even though today's event marks the expansion of our building, the real story behind Eberl Iron Works' success is our tremendous employees," said Nora Eberl. "We really are a family here and without our dedicated and talented employees, none of this is possible."
Thursday afternoon's ribbon-cutting ceremony saw approximately 120 people in attendance, including employees, vendors and family members. Among the dignitaries to commemorate the occasion were Ellicott District Common Council Member Curtis Haynes, Jr. and Steve Lane of Buffalo First.

There is so much more good news like this in our community, we just get bombarded by the Bass Pro's and other silver bullets. Congrats to the Eberl family and thank you!
