Stained Glass Windows Walking Tours

Stained Glass Windows Walking Tours
By Chuck LaChuisa:

A series of afternoon walking tours will explore an underappreciated part of Buffalo's fabulous architectural legacy: stained glass windows.

Six tours on alternating Wednesdays will highlight some of Buffalo's best windows by some of the most important European, American and Buffalo studios. Some of the windows, especially in Catholic churches, are from Germany and Austria and represent the Munich Pictorial style. Other windows, especially in Protestant churches, are by English and American masters such Louis Comfort Tiffany and John LaFarge.

Tours will cover history, style and content of windows.

Each tour includes visits to two houses of worship that are within walking distance.

An added feature of each tour will be a free DVD raffle drawing of the WNED-produced special "Buffalo's Houses of Worship."

I love the snoopy character in Stained Glass.

It makes me wonder what stained glass we lost as we demolished the Hotel Buffalo which had stained glass in its restaurant atrium or the many churches we demolished. It doesnt look like we even attempted to save the stained glass from St Patricks of some of the other churches we demolished.

Yes, he was actually my favorite character though his name was probably the least mentioned and the least memorable.

I was a reader, took piano lessons and was surrounded by chaos and conflict (that they tried to ignore) just like Schroeder.

It also brings up another problem with Buffalo youth. We are losing pieces of our golden age everyday. We are aborting the children of western civilization at a breakneck pace until every western nation is far below replacement level...and many of the children we do have are not getting the mentoring (well the feminists are mentoring the female gender but the boys are completely lost and abandoned and ignored) into the great arts, crafts, trades, skills that people once poured their passions.

Looking at places like BOCES and ECC and Roycroft, etc. It raises the question why dont we have more programs to involve these kids in the great arts, crafts, trades, skills, etc.

Heck, with the growth of urban farms places like ECC could branch into artisanal cheeses, meats, wines and liquors, pop, gardening, 4F. Do you know there are cities that use goats instead of lawnmowers to reduce the vegetation along expressways.

THE DIGNITY OF THE HUMAN BEING COULD BE ELEVATED TO A HEIGHT OF CREATIVITY AND PRODUCTIVITY...YET WE LET PEOPLE LAY IDLE IN POVERTY.

Its more than the beauty of these windows...isnt it? Its knowledge, its craft, its something unions and government and modernism destroyed long ago. Its elevating the spirit through emotion, through the mind, through the labor of ones hands, through productivity and passion.

I dont know about you...but that is what I see in those windows. Its what I wish for my fellow citizens of Buffalo.
