For those Hertel fans looking to spice it up a bit, try heading to the North Park Theatre block the last Friday of every month (through September). The series is called Shop, Rock and Stroll and is intended to add some zest to an already lively stretch. From 6:30pm to 9pm, live music, food and drinks will be offered in a social, shopping atmosphere. It's a chance for the businesses to get together and celebrate with their customers. Be sure to hit the restaurants on these nights, as there is bound to be some great people watching.

Hertel Happenings
The businesses on Hertel Avenue have teamed up and are presenting customers with a neat idea scheduled to run periodically throughout the summer. The last Saturday of the month, stores and restaurants (over 180 small businesses on the street) are offering discounts to people who like to stroll the street in search of special deals at a sidewalk setting. It's a good idea, and one that adds a lot of life to a commercial district. The Saturday sidewalk sale is scheduled to continue through September. The sale starts at 11am.

Leave a commentThank god the DOT didnt get their way when they wanted to widen Hertel by another lane in each direction 10 years ago. Stopping that abortion could have been the turning point for this neighborhood.

This is a fantastic example of how 'development' really should be done in the city. Creating an atmosphere worthy of any kind of critical mass and attendance will only come from us, the integrated public. "Integrated public" meaning the combination of the private sector, community, government actors, etc. I hope the district's reps come out to support and find ways to encourage similar cooperation and action elsewhere in the city. It would be great to see some 'spillover effects' over time both on Hertel Ave and elsewhere.
Come on WNYers...get out and support one of the hippest neighborhoods in Buffalo!
