Today marked the opening of LaSalle Park's Centennial Pool. The $1.8 million reconstruction project wrapped up just in time for the community to enjoy the park amenity as the hot weekend weather rolls in. The unheated pool was a bit chilly according to some of the swimmers that I talked to. I'm sure that won't be much of a problem on Sunday as the temperature approaches 90.
Approximately 50 bathers and swimmers came to LaSalle to inspect the newly renovated pool house and pool. There are lap markers and lifeguard stations, though no diving boards since the deep end is only 4' 8". Pool hours are 1am to 7pm Monday through Friday, closed on Saturday, and noon to five on Sunday. I find it a bit unusual that the pool is not open on Saturdays... the one day of the week that is sure to draw a crowd. Then again, maybe a crowd is not what the City is looking to contend with. Regardless, it's good to see this facility back up and running after being run down and closed for so many years. The place looks great.

Especially considering so much dumber spending of public money that happens in Buffalo, it's ridiculous that the pool was closed for 7 years while this upgrade dragged on and it still won't be open Saturdays. Also, all public pools in Buffalo don't open until July? If so, that sounds dumb too.
