The BASH: Cookies, Lance, Cosmos and Guys in Uniform

After a few cocktails I found that camouflage was not such a bad look for me or the other 4,000 plus guests that attended last nights 12th annual Red Cross fundraiser 'MASH Bash.' Properly known as 'The BASH 2010' held at Red Cross headquarters on Delaware Ave. in Buffalo.

The impressive turnout was second to the incredible bite size cuisine from local restaurants, free Tim Horton's chocolate chip cookies and performances by none other than Lance Diamond. It's not a party unless Lance is jamming and I am a sucker for cookies.

The BASH was named Buffalo's Best Annual Fundraiser in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010
by ArtVoice and also received the 2007 Outstanding Event Award from Buffalo Niagara Event Professionals.

For those of you living in a hole these last few years, The BASH is a traditional Buffalo summer kick-off party raising money for the Red Cross of Western New York to provide education on vital disaster preparedness and response.

The inclement weather did not put a damper on party-goers. In fact many people barely noticed the torrential downpour, that or they were having way too much fun dancing in it. Even the volunteers were overtly positive and outgoing.

What makes The BASH such a successful and entertaining event is the atmosphere and that fact that Buffalonians are always ready to start the summer off right- fatigues, dog tags and all.

The BASH is certainly an event for all people, but if you're young and single it might be just one the best places to score a potential date. According to some of my single-lady-friends... "There is something about a man in uniform."

Just make sure not to scarf down too many free cookies and cosmos while scoping them out!

Honest question: can people in Buffalo let their hair down WITHOUT the aid of a drink? I would love to see some authentic outlandishness in this town, that wasn't necessitated by getting messed up. Also, this event comes across as contrived and, well, like a suburban lot "gettin' crazy in the big city" (sorry to be so critical, but I had to get my ***** quotient out for the week.)

Assuming your name implies you're well-traveled, what are some places that behave authentically outlandish without the aid of beverages? The places I've been in our fine nation usually combine events and drink as a sort of American pastime. Was Homer Simpson wrong when he called alcohol "the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems"?

NYC: afternoon dance parties at Body and Soul and PS 1. Black, white, old, young, gay, straight. Just the dance.

Paris: performance art street festival in the Spring

San Francisco: gay pride (admittedly, plenty of booze)

Barcelona: any day of the week

Need more?

Travelrr...that's funny, for years I too thought this party was for the "suburban lot" to get wild in the city. I loved when people asked me if it was "safe" to park around the Red Cross. Let's hope theses MASH Bashers get back to the city and attend an art opening, experience a musical performance, or stroll our beautiful streets.

Why was it held on a tuesday night? Seems sort of a weird night to have a large party.

It was actually held on a Friday Night. And there were PLENTY of city folk that attended this event, not just the 'suburban lot'. Let's not lose sight of the cause behind this large party. Who cares if there is alcohol or not. Some people like to drink socially, some to get blitzed and some don't drink at all. No one forces anyone to drink at these functions if you don't want to. Everyone who attended was there to support the Red Cross. It was another success and wonderful time!

Why is the assumption being made that everyone having a good time there was drunk?
