Ice Creamcycles: A Booming Business

Ice Creamcycles: A Booming Business
James Karagiannis (and his Ice Creamcycle) is no stranger to the spotlight. Ever since he embarked on his first custom built chill ride he has captured the imaginations and 'sweet tooths' of people all over the city. James has a natural way with marketing, and that has helped to grow his business over the years. Every summer he comes up with new ideas to showcase his rides and his products. This summer he teamed up with Squeaky Wheel on a rather interesting artistic promotion (see contest) that will see the ice cream carts starring in a series of video shorts.

I caught up with one of the production quads filming a sequence in front of the Lexington Co-op. According to James, "I don't even want to know what they are doing. I guess a group of kids have one of the carts over at McCarthy Park right now. This is a fun and creative business. I want these artists to take a bike for the day, be creative, and have fun. I'm not sending them out to sell... even though the carts are still full with product. If they sell a few bars along the way (customers can be demanding) I let the video crew keep enough money to buy a dinner when they are through filming. After all, they are helping to promote the business."

The ice creamcycles don't even have to be the lead role in the videos - they just have to be an important part of the script. All of the video submissions are due back to Squeaky Wheel by July 24th, and from there finalists will be shown at the Outdoor Animation Festival at Days Park on July 31st. The winning video will be chosen by the crowd and a check in the amount of $300 will be awarded.

*It's not too late to enter the video contest: The preferred method of contact for James is by telephone: 716-948-4316. Please be aware the time to take the bike out must be made in advance.
