ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID & NEVER A BRIDE
by Claire Geist and Marisa DiSarno

It's wedding season! There are many stresses that go with planning and executing a wedding, but your dress or suit does not have to be one of them, we promise! Mix things up this season and make saying "I do!" even sweeter by giving vintage a try, and we don't mean something you bought in the 90s that for some reason you never wore.

We all remember those bridesmaid's dresses we had to wear because our best friend was getting married or a suit that's been in the closet for more years than you care to remember. Fear not! You can bring new life to these garments with a little help from Fashion Maniac and our friend at Atelier on Elmwood.

If the bride leaves the dress decision to you, stand out and catch the bouquet in darker or lighter jewel-tones, charming antiqued, vintage attire. Add some flair to dresses by layering some glitzy costume jewelry or get your dress hemmed to perfection by "Don the Taylor" on Lovejoy & Goethe St. A whole array of drool-worthy jewels can be looked through from The Lodge Auction House Cazenovia Street off of Seneca.

For our blushing brides, we know that picking your wedding gown can be a completely daunting task but you can truly stand out in a vintage gown. Try unconventional creams rather than your standard white or even grey like the piece seen above from The Lodge Auction House. Remember, any accessories, if at all, shouldn't overpower your dress.

Gowns-Buffalo-2.jpg

Your wedding dress should be timeless so when choosing your gown look for a cut that fits your body perfectly (tip- almost anything can be tailored). Remember it's your big day so dress the way that makes you feel the best. Besides we left Victorian England ages ago so ditch the long sleeves and high necklines to appease the family and the Queen and opt for a sleek and sexy deep-v back or a one-shoulder toga style dress.

Guys, we know weddings aren't in your top ten favorite things to do but maybe we can help make getting dressed for one a little easier. For summer weddings try light colors in summer fabrics like linen and if you're feeling a little strapped for cash don't hesitate to remix your closet or borrow something from a friend, as long as it fits properly. If your closet is bare and your friends won't share, stick with your standard suit but head to the vintage shops and look for great accessories like a belt, cufflinks, tie or even shoes to change things up.

Today's couple's are definitely leaping into the unconventional, making lasting impressions whether it's the gowns, shoes, hairdos, cuff links, or swanky place, it all comes back to LOVE.

"In the 1940's, couturiers re-invented the gown with 'flowier' bottom portions, creating new freedom from the constrictive associations with the formal gown that had been established for decades beforehand. Gowns since then have been designed to be more for parties since taking away long trains and a slimmer silhouette made it easier to dance in. Since then, evening dresses have been designed in a way that keeps a woman more social and less inhibited to move into the limelight."

I would LUT it more if the editorial and photos were front and center, and not sandwiched between so much credit and promotional noise. That, unfortunately, makes it seem rather amateurish.
