Now that our backyard thermometers are regularly registering above freezing, it's easy enough to think of outdoor activities to do with kids in Buffalo. We've all got our favorite summer festivals, parks and playgrounds (stay tuned for a future article on this topic), and other fine-weather activities. But the occasional cold and rainy day does still appear... and if you're like me, there are some days that are just too stinkin' hot to be outside in the summer. So, what to do?
If you haven't made it there yet, "Sesame Street Presents: The Body" is playing at the Buffalo Museum of Science through June 9th. Now, before you berate me for telling you about an exhibit that's been around the city for a few months and is leaving shortly, let me remind you of something: I am the mother of a toddler. In my opinion, it is actually commendable that I'm writing anything at all. Furthermore, this post isn't a description of the exhibit; it's about ways to save money when you go. Okay, now that I've garnered the sympathy of other parents and smoothed the ruffled feathers of BR trolls, let's proceed.
Here's the scoop: Admission to the Science Museum (which at present includes entrance to the Sesame Street exhibit) is $8 per adult, $6 per child (2-17), and children under 2 are free. An annual family membership to the Museum is $50. If you go to the Museum and pay for a one-day admission, keep your receipt. The cost of admission can be applied to a membership for up to 30 days. This isn't a bad idea if you want to scope out the Museum before buying an annual membership.
Alternately, you can get $10 off a membership with a coupon from the 2010 Buffalo First Coupon Book. The Buffalo Entertainment Coupon book also has a BOGO offer for a one-time adult admission. You can also save $1 on admission if you are a member of AAA or WBFO. NFTA passholders and Buffalo & Erie County Public Library Card holders also receive a $1 discount. Or you can save $2 on admission while the Sesame Street exhibit is running if you are a YMCA member, or have an M&T Bank credit, check, or ATM card.
Bottom line? There are lots of ways to save money on a trip to the Buffalo Museum of Science. And an annual family membership is a great idea because once the Sesame Street exhibit folds in a few days, robotic dinosaurs are roaring into town from June 26th through October 10. The Buffalo News did a profile on the new director. Seems like he has everything going in the right direction. Hopefully he can continue to attact these type of national exhibits that drive traffic to the museum, help it make money, so that it can continue to upgrade itself.
