Buffalo Lazy Randonneur Club: A ride in gingham to a petanque champagne luncheon
The first Buffalo Lazy Randonneur ride of the season was The Tweed Ride. Yesterday was The Gingham Ride. It's a seasonal thing for this group - get dressed up in your finest and hit the bike trails in Buffalo. At the end of the day, after the rides have wrapped up, there is always time for a picnic or to head to a bike-friendly pub like Essex.

I missed The Gingham Ride unfortunately. It was only while chucking a disc in the park that I heard the bike bells echoing over the hills. Upon further inspection, my hunch was correct. The riders, decked out in Gingham, had picked out a grassy patch of parkland to lay down their bikes in exchange for a game of petanque with champagne. The gingham gathering looked to be a lot of fun - Ablejack Courtney (rider) was dressed to impress, as the rest of the crew sprawled about toasting, talking and enjoying the day in grand style.

The BLR riding club is always looking for spirited members to join in on the fun! The next ride is scheduled to be an early fall event - the riders do organize many smaller get-togethers in-between the seasonal rides.

Actually it was the seersucker ride. But gingham would be nice for a late summer ride....

Oh come now, Lester. You don't think that Dandies were around when you were younger? I think you are sorely mistaken.

absolutely adorable. bike culture in buffalo is getting truly fun, quirky, and visible.

oh, and some unsolicited advice for everyone going on gardenwalk: the best way to do it is on a bike. you can get to as many neighborhoods as you want without having to struggle for parking. be a good guest and don't bring your bike into anyone's yard.

now would someone please organize a gardenwalk bike tour?
