A Real 'High Profile' Brunch Spot

A Real ‘High Profile’ Brunch Spot
Around 40 people signed up to brunch on the 37th floor of One HSBC Center this morning. It had been a long time since I had visited the top of Buffalo's largest tower, and must admit that I've often thought about the missed opportunity that was vanquished when a top-floor restaurant closed years ago. Fortunately for today's brunch-goers, an available upper floor office is in the process of being converted into a space that should continue to lend itself to similar opportunities in the future (meetings, conferences, brunches, etc.).

Those lucky enough to attend the special brunch were also treated to a rooftop tour that turned out to be pretty spectacular... and windy! Our tour guide must have been a stand-up comedian in a previous life - he made the lap around the top of the tower both entertaining and informative. Between the Bloody Marys, the breakfast and the views, guests will be talking about this unforgettable excursion for a long, long time. What I was not aware of was that One HSBC Center is actively promoting the conferences and the tours via its website, for anyone interested in booking 'high profile' meetings and/or panoramic tours of the cityscape. Click here for the details, and stay tuned for (hopefully) another Roaming Buffaloes power brunch and rooftop tour.

so what is the top floor used for during the next 363 days? Private parties, if even that? What a huge waste. What medium to big city doesn't have a restaurant atop a tall building? I hate this place sometimes.

I see there's a minimalist preference too. Why so few pics btw?

I am happy to see the HSBC tower open again. We used to go there for lunch during the summers in high school and a few times during college. The food was acceptable but not amazing, a little on the expensive side. I don't remember much about the service, but I do know that the place was usually pretty empty with the exception of the monthly blue hair luncheons that would take up the seats near the windows and the fat businessmen in three piece suits smoking cigarettes or cigars and drinking during their lunch hours.

I'm going to have to find a reason to host a party there before the management changes their mind.

It is nice to see Buffalo using some of the assets it has. I agree we need to focus on developing these assets and make them available to use. As was mentioned in the last article we only have one other venue for fine dining at the top of Buffalo and that is the Mid Day Club in the Liberty Building (www.middayclubbuffalo.com). I would encourage everyone to stop in and test the Mid Day out while we wait for other venues to open for our dining and sight seeing enjoyment.
