Monday Mystery Answer

Monday Mystery Answer

Buffalo is a city full of great architecture.  I've taken thousands of pictures in recent years of downtown and the waterfront, striking vistas, industrial ruins, stately mansions, beautiful churches, working class neighborhoods and everything in between.  Most of us are familiar with our architectural landmarks, but do we really pay attention to the detail found on the buildings we oftentimes take for granted?  It's the mosaic of the good, the bad and the ugly that make up Buffalo's cityscape.

The Beaux Arts, Green & Wicks designed structure was completed in 1901.  Originally built by Buffalo Savings Bank, it is now owned by M&T Bank.  The building's signature feature is its gold-leafed dome.  It is 23 feet tall and 56 feet in diameter.  Interior paintings were not completed until 1925.

One of my favorite scenes in Buffalo is M&T Center and the Electric tower, seen from the entrance to the Key Center at fountain plaza. Check it out, especially on a clear night.

The historic, gold domed bank building at M&T Center is one of the most beautiful and visually appealing buildings. The inside of this building is just spectacular with the ornate domed ceiling with its interesting murals. The large, arched windows along with the stone interior with its ornate carvings makes this one of the most beautiful, historic interior spaces in WNY.
