Squeaky Wheel: Anarchy In The Kitchen
Anarchy in the Kitchen, an evening of live gastro-performances by literary, performing, and media artists, explores the intersection of edibility and aesthetics, technology and cuisine, and prose and produce. It questions our daily interactions with the food to foreground notions of digestibility, consumption, good taste, domesticity, hunger, and accessibility.
Witness a one-time evening (7PM sharp on Friday, March 5th @ Squeaky Wheel) of live gastro-performances by artists who explore the intersection of edibility/aesthetics, technology/cuisine and prose/produce. Edible books will be read and consumed, kitchen aids will be used to generate a musical score, newspaper will be transformed into soup, video and sonics will refresh your palate, and lemons will be used as a battery source to whip meringue!
This event is curated by Laura McGough for the 2010 Umami Festival of Food and Art, a biennial festival based in NYC, as will take place before a live audience at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and simultaneously webcast live via the Umami web site and projected to audiences nationwide at host sites, including Squeaky Wheel.
Participating artists include Graham Coreil-Allen, Steve Bradley, "bunny and chick" (Tim Nohe and Marian April Glebes), Bradley Chriss, Adam Good, Carolina Mayorga, Lisa Moren, Rebecca Nagle, Natalia Panfile, Casey Smith, and Shannon Young.
Anarchy in the Kitchen is co-sponsored by The Department of Visual Arts of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Turning lemons into batteries isn't art, it's my 4th grade science fair project.
