Buffalo Comedy is getting a healthy shot in the arm this Sunday when comedian Alysia Wood performs at the Ninth Ward, inside Ani DiFranco's Babeville.
Wood
teams up with Kristen Becker, notorious for her Dykes of Hazard comedy
tour and the Doin' Time
comedy showcase, which has been running in Buffalo for the last 4 years.
Wood recently beat out hundreds of other comics to earn the title of "America's Next Funniest" in Las Vegas. The finals were
judged by comedy dignitaries, including Budd
Friedman, who is recognized as the man who invented
the concept of the comedy club when he opened the first Improv in New York in 1963. "....there could only be one 'America's Next Funniest', and that
honor goes to Seattle's charming Alysia Wood," said Friedman, who is credited with launching the careers of countless
comedy icons such as Adam Sandler and
Sarah Silverman.
Wood is one of the bright new faces to
come out of the strong Seattle comedy scene.
The Louisiana native has settled in Los Angeles, quickly becoming a regular at Hollywood comedy hot
spots.
Joining Wood and Becker is Buffalo native and touring professional Mark Saldana. The evening will be hosted by 103.3FM the Edge's Josh Potter, a quickly rising up-and-comer on the comedy scene.
LIVE at Ninth Ward (located inside Ani DiFranco's Babeville)
