Same-Sex Marriage, LGBT Rights and a Trip to Albany

Same-Sex Marriage, LGBT Rights and a Trip to Albany
Kitty Lambert needs your help.  Lambert, President of OUTspoken for equality is planning a trip to Albany on Tuesday, February 23rd, in order to let lawmakers and representatives know that when it comes to rights of the LBGT community "we're not going to shut up and go away."

Writes Lambert: In December of 2009 the New York State Senate said NO when asked to vote on the rights of LGBT individuals to protect their families. They assumed we would take no for an answer. They were wrong. They are wrong.

"This is about our families," Lambert says. "We are American citizens. We are tax payers, business owners, home owners. We volunteer, attend churches, go to school, and raise children in the communities of New York State. We know that as adults we have an obligation to protect our families, our children, our assets."

Lambert maintains that the New York State Senate has an obligation to represent the LGBT community by legislating laws that will protect their equality.  Click here to see a February 10th YNN video in which Lambert and her partner make a symbolic attempt to procure a marriage license as a same-sex couple.

"Fifty Western New Yorkers will be traveling to Albany to represent you and your family, Lambert says, explaining that this will entail, "12 hours on a bus, leaving at 3:30AM and getting back at nearly midnight...no small commitment."

She implores, "Please, please support us with a donation. It is $35.00 per person. If you can pay all or even part of a scholarship it will be greatly appreciated."

Donations can be made in the following ways:

- Call Kitty Lambert @ 716.578.3782, and I will pick up a TAX DEDUCTIBLE check made out to Marriage Equality New York, OR you can put it in an envelope and drop it in the mail slot at EL MUSEO GALLERY @ 91 Allen Street at your convenience before Monday at 9PM.

- If you prefer to donate online, please do so here.

"Whether it is $5.00 or $50.00, put your money where it gets the work done," Lambert states.  "Help us make it clear that we won't take no for an answer when it comes to the question of our equality!"

Fight the good fight and do what you can. NEVER give up! I'm sitting in San Francisco waiting to hear the Supreme Court ruling on Prop 8. Wouldn't it be ironic, that I would have to move back to Buffalo to get married?! You can take the guy outta Buffalo, but you can't take the Buffalo outta the guy. Is 245 Nottingham still for sale? It would make a LOVELY wedding present. Go Kitty GO!
