Risa's Restaurant Opens Today

Risa’s Restaurant Opens Today
I'm always looking for new places to try lunch in downtown Buffalo. When I fist heard that Risa's was opening at 285 Delaware, I was excited for three reasons. First, Risa's was a reputable Hertel establishment that still commands an immediate following. Second, the Uniland building is a great infill addition to the already beautiful Delaware Avenue streetscape, but unless you are one of the 400 workers inside the building there is not a reason to walk inside. And third... now that there is a culinary destination inside (it officially opened today), maybe we'll start to see the empty commercial spaces that front Delaware Avenue leased out.

I stopped into Risa's this past Friday to check out some of the advancements made to the space, which is situated towards the back of the building on the first floor. The dining area is extremely bright and cheery due to the massive, frosted blue glass wall facing east. cool-bathroom-Buffalo-NY.jpgRisa's features tall ceilings with pendant lighting, an order and pick-up station, seating for 40+ with a live orchid on every table. The entrance lobby boasts a contemporary motion light sculpture and furniture, and the bathrooms deserve honorable mention because they are pictures right out of Dwell Magazine.

Menu selections of note are Stumpy's Special (corned beef, lettuce, tomato, Russian dressing on rye - $7.75), "Burnadebt" Peters (turkey and roast beef on a roll with coleslaw and Russian dressing - $7.95), veggie wrap (roasted red peppers, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, marinated eggplant, cucumber, carrot and cheese $6.50), whitefish salad sandwich, Kosher beef bologna, brisket and chopped liver sandwiches. There are soups, salads and sides with pb&j and grilled cheese for the kids (or kids in all of us). Risa's is open for breakfast, featuring egg sandwiches, breakfast burritos, bagels, English muffins, cinnamon rolls, Danish and oatmeal. There are plenty of desserts and delivery is available. Risa's is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am-3:30pm.

Nice to see the bottom floor getting some use.

I hope they plan to add a restaurant sign to the front of the building, otherwise most people will never know it's even there.

I used to frequent Risa's on Hertel and have been anxious for her to re-open since she closed that location. Can't wait to visit!
