The WNY Girls' Schools Coalition: The Afghanistan Project is composed of 25 girls from Nardin Academy, Buffalo Seminary, and Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart. They are a circumference chapter of Circle of Women, an organization centralized at Harvard College but with 27 chapters across the world.
The group engages in fundraising to assist in the rebuilding of Afghanistan through the building of all girls' schools and increased awareness amongst the student bodies of our respective schools on the benefits of educating girls everywhere. To this date, the local chapter has raised over $35,000 since their inception in 2002. In 2007, they were officially made a Circumference Chapter of Circle of Women. They have built one school, the Zarghona Middle School for Girls; assisted in two others, and are assisting in "Project Wonkhai."
Project Wonkhai is a secondary school for 1,200 girls in Afghanistan, where the literacy rate is only 12% according to UNICEF. Doors opened in March 2009; but the coalition needs to provide school supplies, supplemental textbooks, and they need to construct a security wall. They are also exploring teacher training programs, as well as vocational training for the girls. They believe that one school will affect one community, and one campaign will engage an international circle of women in an effort to foster positive change.

The coalition will hold a fundraising fashion show on Friday, February 26th, at Nardin Hall at Nardin Academy 135 Cleveland Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14222 (Nardin Outreach Club pictured above). Doors are at 7 PM and the Event starts at 8 PM. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $30 for VIP with a grab bag from Tony Walker Body + Beauty. A Cucpake Bar from Rich's is included in price of the ticket. There will be a Silent Auction and Ticketed Auction.
Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance @ projectwonkhai@gmail.com
