Ice 'Air' Hockey and Snowshoeing...

Ice ‘Air’ Hockey and Snowshoeing...
We feel so bad about blowing it on the skating rinks that we called in some backup reinforcements for the kids. Pictured here is So Kimura of Integrity Catering in the beginning stages of his ice hockey table interactive sculpture (based on air hockey). The kids will be able to use ice paddles to shoot the pucks around on So's Creation. So is also carving a life size hockey goalie that kids will be able to shoot pucks at - the goalie will be a tribute to an iconic goalie near and dear to our hearts.

Then Lauren Makeyenko for Tifft Nature Preserve will take kids (and adults) on snowshoeing treks at the festival. From Lauren:

You'd be surprised how many people have never tried snowshoeing and have lived in Western New York their entire life.  Have you ever wanted to try snowshoeing, but just haven't found the time to do it?  At the Powder Keg Festival, Tifft Nature Preserve staff will be leading snowshoe walks starting at 10am and continuing on the hour until 4pm Saturday and Sunday. Adults and children 7 years of age and older can rent traditional wooden snowshoes (Bear Paw or Maine styles) for $2.  For children 6 and under, plastic Redfeather shoe paw snowshoes can be rented for $1.  It is suggested that participants wear winter boots when snowshoeing.  Each walk is limited to the first 20 people to arrive at the tent.  Meet at the Snowshoe Rental tent in front of Pearl Street Grill & Brewery.  Walks will last approximately 30 minutes.

Additionally, information about upcoming programs at Tifft Nature Preserve and the Buffalo Museum of Science will be available.

Here are some more festival photos of the Powder Keg Festival setup:

Gold medal game up on those big screens Sunday afternoon?! Would that be possible?! No brainer if possible and I know where I would be. I just heard on the NBC broadcast that MSU held a "screening party" for the game today at their arena. Let's do one here for Miller as well! And outside!

Props to all the organizers for putting this event together in such a short time frame. All of you deserve a HUGE compliment. I know Buffalo winters are unpredictable. I've been around with different "winter" carnivals that didn't work due to the weather - but heck, even our summer festivals have to worry about the weather. Let's just have fun. I can't wait to have the Labatt Pond Hockey players who came from Texas or even Alaska see what is going on near the foot of Main Street. They are gonna LOVE us! Let's celebrate winter Buffalo and thank you to the Powder Keg volunteers!

I'm going to the PK fest today so I can watch the Gold game tomorrow. If they're going to broadcast this game outside I'd go down there just to be a part of it.
