Fieri at Sophia's and Grover's Bar & Grill

Fieri at Sophia’s and Grover’s Bar & Grill
Last night, the episode that Food Network host Guy Fieri, of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives shot at Sophia's aired at 10PM, followed by Fieri's visit to Grover's Bar & Grill in Amherst at 10:30.  The episodes were named "And the Kicker Is..." and "Dives Worth a Drive," respectively.

You can catch them again, and hopefully, the videos will make the Food Network site in the near future.  As stated by Patrick Lalley of the Blackthorn Tavern, also a featured Fieri stop, you can't buy the sort of exposure Fieri's visits brought to local restaurants - short of a small fortune.

Did you catch any of these local episodes, and if so, did it drive you to the places Fieri covered?  After seeing the Lake Effect Diner show, we headed right over there, and we weren't disappointed.

Lastly, if you're a Sophia's fan, we found this site at flavortownusa.com that's begging for a review.  It needs some fans to fill in the blanks.  Check out Fieri's blogspot while you're at it.

Last night my boyfriend and I were channel surfing and came across Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. And I said, "I wish they would include which locations they are visiting on the episode information, because I don't feel like sitting through an entire episode just hoping that a Buffalo restaurant would be featured." So we changed that channel.

at the beginning of the show they briefly mention what places (name of the city) that they are going to in the episode

some of the places these people select...ugh! I know spots like Grover's, Lake Effect, or Ulrich's (where Bourdain went) have their followers, but really, they're average on a very good night.

I guess you can count me in as a "follower" of Ulrich's and Lake Effect. LOVE both, especially Ulrich's... wicked good sauerbraten.

Grover's is average I agree, however Lake Effect and Ulrich's are very worthy of any press they get.

Ulrich's is an outstanding bar, anything but average. One of the few places where the guy who owns it is the guy handing you the beers. Maybe im a sucker for a bar where you can really converse with the bartender/owner, but places like Ulrich's are tough to find IMHO... i love it there.

everything's debatable, personally I think the bar is so-so though I don't think the owner has been there the 4 or 5 times I went in. The food is bad, there's no way around it, in spite of another comment. The schnitzel is shoe leather. I keep going back as I love the idea of supporting such an ancient/classic establishment, but that's all it has going for it. Same is true of Swannie.
