Extreme Makeover: Buffalo Edition II

Extreme Makeover: Buffalo Edition II
From the Buffalo ReUse website:

Turns out the producers of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition were SO impressed with the City of Good Neighbors that they would like to make a return to Buffalo! This would be the FIRST TIME they have come to a city twice (can I get a "Let's go Buffalo!" chant?). Says Casting Supervisor Morgan Fahey: "We are looking for the deserving people and inspiring families that America can really root for."

To be eligible, a family must own their own single family home and be able to show producers how a makeover will make a huge difference in their lives. Families can apply - or you can nominate a member of your community - by sending a short description of the family story to castingwesternnewyork {at} gmail(.)com. Each nomination must include the names and ages of every member of the household along with a description of the major challenges withing the home. All nominations must also include a contact phone number.

More info can be found at the Extreme Makeover website, which you can visit by clicking here.

The deadline for nominations is February 26th, 2010, so don't delay!!! Let's really show America what WNY is made of.

there is one other qualification not mentioned: they have to live in close proximity to me!

it would be nice to do something on the east side, but they should keep this revitalization of the west side going

I would love to see something on the East Side.
Heck, I'd love it if they actually REHABBED the house rather than knocking it down.
But you can't always get whatcha want...

That's a great shot of all those helpful folks from the surburbs who came into the city to help out. Thank god nobody got capped.

Karl, many of the volunteers came from the city. They are the people quietly working to improve their neighborhoods and their city. They are trying to make a difference, not just for a big media event but day after day. These are the people we should respect and give credit to.

"Turns out the producers of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition were SO impressed with the City of Good Neighbors that they would like to make a return to Buffalo!"

Could we possibly get a little background information about this statement? Who said that they're thinking about returning to Buffalo? How seriously are they considering it? What is the source of this information, besides the Buffalo ReUse website? Their website doesn't do anything to substantiate the claim either. Just curious about where this "news" is coming from...

i think i know of some folks:

they just tried to buy themselves a new place - with some tenants to help differ the costs of ownership (i know they want a single, but maybe the show will make an exception this time). but all the tenants left in a hurry and now they cant afford to make their payments, let alone fix it up.

the taxes are way high on a building that has an arguably negative net worth. and there is a whole lot of work to do. the last few owners did some half assed renovations, and now there are pieces falling off.

and then after the Statler is done, they could do the Central Terminal.

Actually, maybe they could start with City Hall.

Doesn't matter where they do it!!!!!! It's for who needs it the most!. They are not here to improve living conditions for a community,(east side/west side) they are here to help someone unfortunate. It's our fault we live the way we do and let others damage our community, so let's not be selfish and hope the family who needs it the most, receives this opportunity.

Hmmm...I wish there were more real information on this. Why would people need to send info to a gmail account? It doesn't seem to add up...

They should have a extreme makeover for some of our struggling
business owners that stick with it in a difficult place to grow a business.

How many of the houses on the west side, especially the many enormous doubles, are NOT absentee-owned?

I'd like to see them do a real makeover. The last time they just demolished the home that the family spent a lot of time and money on just to make it habitable, to build a new house. To do that, it would have been better and cheaper to just move the poor family to a better house in a better area. That family probably won't be able to afford the higher taxes on that extravagant new house.

I know people who lost their home when it caught fire when an arsonist set fire to a vacant city-owned house next door. They lost everything. Because they no longer own a home, they won't qualify. I'll guess most of the people who need the most help in this city won't qualify.
