BRO submission by Eric Crittenden:
Ok, so by now I KNOW you've heard of the Powder Keg Winter Festival going on right here in Downtown BFLO and I KNOW you're going to be there, but what I'm pretty sure you don't know is what's happening musically. Well, I can assure you that the groove and vibe is equally as chill, as the Powder Keg itself.
As we planned our music program we wanted to be sure that we weren't just "selling beer", as is often the case with these types of events. We wanted to be sure we reached across Buffalo's eclectic musical field and are pretty sure we've done that, in fact we've even reached out across the border and we are sure that the 'winter chill' won't be in your hips, because they'll be movin'!
Saturday's music program kicks off at 1pm with energetic acoustic soul of Michael DiSanto. Recently of Unit 9 fame, DiSanto has been a fixture on the local scene as a bit of an Open Mic guru, dating back to his days at the dearly departed Stimulance Café. His unique arrangements of singer/song writer classics are sure to leave you feeling right and ready for what's up next. 2:30 brings in the Blood Thirsty Vegans, these cats rock with a freshness that is completely their own -providing a spectacular sonic pallet of Rust Belt rock-n-roll. Next up is Free Henry! - a sonic sight to behold; they are a charismatic jam band with just the right amount of their own spice to make it exciting and original. Now let's cross the border a bit shall we? Our headliner for Saturday night is none other than Ron Hawkins of the Lowest of the Low! He'll be playing from 7-10pm. I mean what else is there to say about a proven song writer and band leader...? This cat rocks, period. As if this wasn't enough, DJ Universal will then take the reins at 10:30pm to usher in the moonlight and provide a dubbed out backdrop for the Olympic Medal round that will be shown on two GIANT Hi-Def Plasmas!
Sunday is all about getting' down! We start off with Music is Art's own Chameleon's Coat at 12pm. If you didn't catch them last month on WBFO's Wednesday Night Concerts you missed a hell of a performance. This group is the perfect start to anyone's day. Up next is slip Madigan one of Buffalo's newest jam band creations, these cats are all original and are sure to be the next one to make it, for sure! Now what winter festival would be complete without authentic Mardi Gras Cajun music? Lee Ron Zydeco will close this year's Powder Keg Winter Festival. Complete with his own salsa, Lee Ron is a Buffalo Legend and in fact, he's often booked in New Orleans because he at times is more authentic to Cajun music than the modern Creoles, LOL! Either way you slice it, your moon boots will be jivin'-n-glidin' the entire weekend, so we can't wait to see you there...HOLLA!!!
