Comptroller SanFilippo Criticizes Department, Mayor Brown Responds

Comptroller SanFilippo Criticizes Department, Mayor Brown Responds
First the Mayor's response: "I'm deeply concerned by the Comptroller's audit of the Department of Human Resources.  We will do everything possible to address and remedy the issues raised in this audit by bringing all relevant parties to the table immediately.  I disagree with and I am disappointed by the Department's response to the Comptroller's audit.  I've directed the city Budget Director and Law Department to lead this effort and I will make any necessary changes to resolve this matter as soon as possible."

Then the story.  There are allegations of dead people receiving health benefits, delays in payments to vendors, and overall shoddy management.

According to this Buffalo News article, Comptroller Andrew SanFilippo was quoted as saying, "It's certainly a total meltdown in management. You can't hide your head in the sand, pretend there's nothing wrong with your department and say the culpability is elsewhere."

The department SanFilippo refers to is overseen by Human Resources Commissioner Karla Thomas, who was appointed by Mayor Brown in the fall of 2008.  The audit ranges from July 2006 to December 2008, but auditors feel Thomas has tried to "distance herself from efforts to solve the problem," according to the News article.  Still, SanFilippo refers to the "mess" that needs straightening out, and messes do take time to clean up.

But worry not.  The audit is being conducted by Darryl McPherson.

Byron "Steve Urkel" Brown and his traveling podium are the worst things to ever hit our city. Any successes this city has are totally unrelated to anything he does. It almost makes you wish for Masiello again! Anytime there is a question that he doesn't like, he dances around it, blames the questioner, or says he'll answer it after he reviews the situation which is lawyer speak for "never". Yet, there he is, anytime there is something positive going on, trying to get face time....what a HUGE disappointment he is. Our city and people deserve MUCH better than him!

This is what 1-party politics provides: mediocrity and ineptness.

Howard at Buffalo State=incompetent in ffice because of tenure, minority, gender and politics

Brown, same
Browns Pigeon, same

but who is to blame is it the african american theatric tax free churchs that are fronts for political lobbies, that exploit the poorest of the poor for $500 suits, multiple cars and waterfront residences.

underfunded minority public schools that consider good grades as white, where minorities conform to dumb down, and believe their civil rights heritage is victimization and compensation thru government programs and affirmative action (in other words, do we have affirmative action to thank for howard and brown?, would you want these people as your doctor?)

Is it the civil rights victimization that votes based on race at the same time it declares prejudice for anyone who does as they do?

Why use a city agency to benefit the city when it can be used for patronage?
